How to Tune Your Guitar to Itself

You may not always have a tuner handy, but if you are playing by yourself then you don't have to worry about being in tune with someone else's guitar, as long as you are in tune to yourself.

Step 1

Tune the bottom E string the best you can. If you need a reference E to get started you could use this site http://wickedguitartuner.com.

Step 2

Place your finger on the 5th fret of the low E string and strum the note. That will be the note that you want your A string to be. Tune your A string as close to the note as you can.

Step 3

Place your finger on the 5th fret of the A string and strum the note.  Tune your D string to match that note the best you can.

Step 4
