Wood Burning With a Soldering Iron

DSCN2050.JPG

A simple way to draw on wood.

You Will Need:

DSCN2046.JPG

A soldering iron

Sandpaper (Not too rough but not too smooth either)

A block of unvarnished wood, if it is varnished it will burst into flames when the iron touches it.

Wood or nail varnish

A pen that uses water based ink, not a ballpoint, but a fountain or rollerball will do.

Draw the Design You Want on the Wood (pen)

I drew the building block brand name and a shrub.

Heat Up the Iron

Heat it until it leaves a brown mark on the wood.

You can't draw like a pen. You have to make dots.

Don't worry about the ink, it just burns up.

Sanding and Varnishing

Sand the block until all excess ink gets rubbed off.

When that's done you can varnish it. this prevents dirt from sticking to it.

NOTE: ONCE VARNISHED, YOU CANNOT BURN IT MORE. IF YOU DO IT WILL BURST INTO FLAMES.

Great Job!

You made a patterned block of wood!

Have fun making a few more, just be careful.
