Ice Coffee Maker

Make an Ice Coffee Maker so you can enjoy ice coffee at home. It works by sandwiching hot coffee between an inner frozen can and an outer can placed in an ice water bath. It will create an ice coffee from a 72c hot coffee in 3 minutes.

This project came about after reading about a commercial product which works in the same way. But why buy one when you can make one yourself?

Supplies

One, 250-millimeter aluminum can of 'V' or other sugary drink

One, empty 250-millimeter can

Two, empty 950-millimeter aluminum beverage cans

Larger outer plastic cylinder

Wooden paint stirrer

Frozen Inner Can of Sugar Drink

A can of 'V' was frozen by placing it in the freezer. The high sugar content (34 grams) prevented the can from bursting as it froze.

Inner Can Holder

The inner can holder is made by cutting the bottom off an empty 250 millimeter can. This was then hot glued to the middle of a wooden paint stirrer. This will hold the frozen can of 'sugar water'.

A holder for the 950-millimeter aluminum can was made by removing the top from an empty 950-millimeter aluminum beer can. This was achieved by filing it off. A ring was then made by cutting about 3 cm down from the top.

Cut some aluminum strips from the bottom portion of the beverage can. Sand these strips to be a bit rougher, they will be used to attach the ring to the wooden paint stirrer using a hot glue gun as shown in the photos above.

The inner smaller ring is attached to the wooden paint stirrer using a hot glue gun.

The larger ring is hot glued around it.

The aluminum support strips are used to provide further support for attaching the outer ring to the paint stirrer.

Creating Ice Coffee

A hot coffee was poured in the larger aluminum can. The frozen can of 'V' was placed in its holder and connected to the top of the larger can. The larger can was then placed in a container of iced water and moved around for 3-4 minutes to assist with heat transfer. The coffee was then poured out. It had cooled to 2.5c
