Illustrator Trick for Noobs

You want the clean, beautiful vector work that only Adobe Illustrator can offer but upon opening the program your aesthetic dreams are brutally murdered right in front of your eyes.

"Photoshop is so easy, I can just draw what I want and it comes to life.

There is hope for you yet. If you need to get some hand drawn, vector work done but don't have time to tackle Ai's steep learning curve there is a fun shortcut you can take.

• A computer
• A tablet or phone, ios or android
• An app for iPad, iPhone and Android called. Adobe Draw
  
• Cheap option:
  A program called iExplorer (or similar device explorer)
• Expensive option:
  Subscription membership to the Adobe Creative Cloud

Note: This Instructable is written under the assumption you are using an ios device version 8 and up.
The steps described will be fairly similar for earlier versions of ios.
For those using Android devices it should be easier to get to your files but the location should be similar.

You've completed your picture and want to take it elsewhere and set it free.

Exit the app just to be sure it has saved the work.

If you've chosen the expensive option and have paid to use Adobe Creative Cloud, you can just open up the cloud on your PC or Mac and VOILA!

But if you're a starving artist like me, it's time to work around the system.

Time for a little search and rescue mission, we're out to find your work files.

• Plug your device into your computer and open iTunes.
• Go to your Device and have iTunes back up your Data to the computer.

Time to strap in, it's a long hike to the files we want but if you follow the directions we'll get you there in no time.

When finished backing up, open up iExplorer.
This will allow you to rifle through the backup you just made and pull out any files you want to use.

Click "Browse iTunes Backups" at the bottom of the menu on the left.
Then select the device on which your Adobe Draw app resides.

Open "Backup Explorer"
(Highlighted in blue in the photo)

There will be a folder for Adobe DRAW that looks a bit like this:
AppDomain-com.adobe.draw.ios

From there go to:
Library > Private Documents > Model Storage > Asset Context

Inside will be a folder with a long name consisting of utter gibberish.
open it and then go to:
Projects

You will now be faced with more crazily named folders.
These are your projects.

Copy them all to your Desktop for easy access.

In each of these project folders you will find your work in the current folder.
The file you want will be in SVG format.

Open up the SVG file in Adobe Illustrator.

From there you can toy with it if you know what you're doing or you can Save As a PDF and then play with it in Photoshop (remembering that once it won't still be a vector image once you do).

So there you go!

It's a little bit tricky navigating to those files on your device but it's a helluva lot easier than it is for a noob to learn how to use illustrator properly when all you want to do is draw a nice, clean picture.
