Imp-Canteen

Tie Sock.JPG
As a church youth leader (I am the Royal Ambassadors Director for Beallwood Baptist Church) I am always looking for something that is quick, fun and useful that boys from grades 1 - 6 can make.

This is a way to teach them about recyclying and make a cool canteen in the process.

This project will take about 5 minutes to complete for adults and 10 - 15 for boys 1 - 6 grade (cause you gotta help them and they got you outnumbered 2-1 usually).

So here we go.

Step 1: Get Some Stuff

Stuff.JPG
For this project your going to need:

A Square of tin foil big enough to wrap your bottle in
2 old (and preferably clean socks)
A legnth of string or rope
1 plastic water bottle

Go get it!

Back so soon?

Ok, lets get going then!

Step 2: Sock It to Me!

1st sock.JPG
Put your plastic waterbottle in the sock, (so far so good).

Step 3: All That Glitters

wrap sock.JPG
Is probably tin foil in this project - so wrap the sock in the foil ( I found it was easiest to wrap it along the edge of the bottle and fold the foil up onto the bottom of the bottle) and fold the top of the sock down onto the foil as shown.

This will help hold the foil in place.

Step 4: Sock It to Me Part Dos

2nd sock.JPG
Put the whole thing into the second (need I say it - clean - alright I said it. Actually I wrote it, ok enough of that).

Don't fold the top of the sock this time.

Step 5: Tie Me Canteen Down Boys

I admit it doesn't have the nice ring that Kanaroo does but it do in a pinch.

Tie your string around the neck of the water bottle as shown and then tie the loose ends of the string together to form a loop.

Step 6: All Good Things...

Ok now just clip the bottle to your backpack or belt loop and your ready to go.

This will keep cold drinks cold for some time (or on a hot day for about 30 minutes or so).

Kids love it, it's fun to make

Parents love it, it's free

And it is useful.
