How to Make an Origami Heart

image17.jpeg

Many of us think of art as paintings or sculpture, but you should try your hand at the Japanese form of art, origami. Let me get you started with a design that has meaning to all of us, a heart.

Supplies

- Paper: Printer size (If you already have a square piece of paper, you can skip the first step.)

- Scissors

Make a Square

First, you need to fold your paper across the edge, lining up the two edges. Then, cut off the excess paper on the bottom.

Unfold the Triangle

Once you have finished cutting of the excess paper, unfold the triangle you have now made. You should end up with a square that has a line going from one corner to another.

Fold to Make Another Triangle

After you have made the first crease, you will want to fold your paper again to make a triangle with the first crease going through the middle of it.

Unfold the Second Triangle

Now you will have to unfold the triangle you just made. You should see two line dividing the Paper in fourths.

Fold the Top Corner to the Middle

image5.jpeg

Making sure one of the corners is at the top you need to fold the top corner to the middle. You can figure out where the middle is by looking at the lines you made when folding the paper into fourths.

Fold Bottom Corner to Top

Once you fold your top corner to the middle, fold the bottom corner to the top. You should be folding it to a flat side.

Fold Edge to the Middle

image7.jpeg

For this step, you need to fold one of the bottom corner's up to the top in the middle. You should start to see the heart coming together.

Repeat Step 7

In repeating the last step, you will fold the corner on the other side to the middle, meeting the other side.

Fold the Top Corner to the Top Line

image9.jpeg

Turn your paper to the back. Now you will fold one of the top corners down to the top line. You should be making the top flat.

Repeat Step 9

Repeat the last step by folding the other top corner down to the line.

Fold Edge Inside

image11.jpeg

For this step, you will want to repeat what you did on the last two steps, but on the edge. Because there is not a line to fold into, fold about a half inch in.

Repeat Step 11

You will repeat step 11 to the other side.

Flip Your Heart Over and Finish

Flip you heart over, and you are officially finished!! You can add details or pictures to your heart to make it more personal.
