Well it was late at night and I needed a stand. I did not want to go to an 24hr store and pay twenty or more bucks for a stand. I saw on instructable of one that was made out of wood. I started to make a hand drawing of it in a wire frame manner to build it and then it hit me.  Why not use some of the coat hangers to make one. Perfect! Cheap, can be made quietly late at night and do not have to get out of the pj's to go to the store. Do this project at your own risk. Please take care and prevent  stabbing yourself with the tines. WEAR SAFETY GLASSES! I will not be responsible for any issues. I thought about paper macheing them to make them safe and a bit more arty. Just a thought for later. This definitely can be used for an android tablet also.

What You Need.

PCDV0125.JPG
Materials

2 or more large coat hangers

Tools:

Heavy guage wire cutters
Pliers (two sets make it easier to bend the Hangers)
Tape measure
tape to wrap ends.
Marker
Safety glasses to keep your eyes protected from puncture.  <<<  Important!

Get the Coat Hangers Ready

PCDV0127.JPG
Cut off the heads and straighten the two coat hangers.

The First Bends.

PCDV0129.JPG
Take one of the coat hangers an measure the total length.
Mark the hanger at the half-way point.
from there measure 1.5 inches (two or so more inches might be better)on either side of the half way point and mark them.
Make your first two bends on the two outside points. like the picture.
I made this one 4 inches wide (original was 3 inches wide).

Second Bends

PCDV0130.JPG
Now you will want to measure up 1 and 2 inched on each spine for the next two bends on each spine. this part of the unit will will have two more bends( one on each spine but I will wait for that to make things easier. It is already looking like a stand.

Adding the Back Frame.

PCDV0132.JPG
Now take the other coat hanger and center it on the two spnes. Wrap each side around the spines as tight as you can.

More Bends

PCDV0134.JPG
Now measure out 3 inches from each spine.
Bend the outside ends up so the unit looks like a pitchfork.

It's Coming Together.

PCDV0138.JPG
Now measure 5 inches up the two outside twine and  bend back  towards the center.  Bend horizontal spines around the center spines (tightly as before).  Cut off any extra that goes over the inside tines. tape together.

Finishing the Frame.

PCDV0141.JPG
Measure up 7 inches or so on the center tines and bend backwards  to the desired angle. then measure 6 1/2 inches down the center back tines and then bend the ends towards the center. Take part of original coat hanger that you first cut off and straighten it out. Tape to the ends of the back tines. you are done. Now you can use you Ipad, book, sheets of paper to type from or whatever. There are better ways to do this but you get the general idea. Wish there had been time to do it nicer. If I could afford a real Ipad, I would have used it instead in the picture. (Hint Hint Apple!)

Another Use!

We used the holder in our https://www.instructables.com/id/Linux-ghetto-Tele-prompter/ instructable to properly position the mirror.

Also see https://www.instructables.com/id/One-coat-hanger-laptop-stand/ For another good idea with a coat hanger.

Forgotten, I had used coat hangers to make a server keyboard rack. Great in case you need to quick change some bios settings, otherwise I remote into the machine.

Softer.

Prototype stand that reall did not work as expected. Plastic material  was not sturdy enough, butended up still being useful.
