Jerry the Jamin' Jellyfish
Jerry the Jamin' Jellyfish originated as a school project, but evolved far beyond that. Jerry is a flat pack, slotted construction, Halloween costume for middle school aged children. Jerry is 100% recyclable and can be built and constructed in a very short amount of time. Since he has a flat pack design he is extremely simple to store and wear again and again for years to come.
Design Brief: I had to design and develop a Halloween costume for a middle school aged child that is a non-fish marine organism, with a flat pack design, slotted construction and is made completely of recycled cardboard.

PART P1: HEAD PLATE
Part P1: Head Plate
1. Measure a semicircle with a length of 40inches and a height of 25inches using a tape measure (T6) and ruler (T3)
2. Cut out with a utility knife (T2) on a mat (T1)
3. Cut 3 5-inch slits along the bottom with a utility knife (T2) on a mat (T1)
4. Cut 7 more slits of the same length along the top edge with a utility knife (T2) on a mat (T1)

PART P2: TOP ARCH
1. Using a pencil (T4) draw a 60 in. by13 in. rectangle
2. Along the sides draw 7 rectangles that are 5 in. wide and 1 in. long at 5 in. intervals
3. On each end draw 1 rectangle of the same dimensions as above
PART P3: BASE PLATE
1. With a pencil (T4), draw a 45x10 inch rectangle on your cardboard (S1)
2. Along the long side draw 3 rectangles 5 in. wide and 1in. long at 5 in. intervals
3. Cut this piece out with a utility knife (T2) on a mat (T1)
4. Using your utility knife (T2) cut one 5 in. slit at each end
5. Using your compass (T5) cut a circle in the center with a circumference of 21in.
6. On each side of the circle cut 5 3in. slits using your utility knife (T2)
7. On each side of the circle cut 2 horizontal 1in. slits using your utility knife (T2)
2. Along the long side draw 3 rectangles 5 in. wide and 1in. long at 5 in. intervals
3. Cut this piece out with a utility knife (T2) on a mat (T1)
4. Using your utility knife (T2) cut one 5 in. slit at each end
5. Using your compass (T5) cut a circle in the center with a circumference of 21in.
6. On each side of the circle cut 5 3in. slits using your utility knife (T2)
7. On each side of the circle cut 2 horizontal 1in. slits using your utility knife (T2)
PART P4: TENTACLE
1. Using your pencil (T4), draw a triangle with a 5in. base on a 17in. x 5in. piece of cardboard
2. Starting 1in. in from each end of the triangle draw a curved line 10in. down
3. Cut this out with your utility knife (T2) on a mat (T1)
4. Repeat steps 1-3 until you have 8 tentacles
2. Starting 1in. in from each end of the triangle draw a curved line 10in. down
3. Cut this out with your utility knife (T2) on a mat (T1)
4. Repeat steps 1-3 until you have 8 tentacles
PART P5: HEAD STRAP
1. Cut out a 16in. by 2in. band with your utility knife (T2) on a mat (T1)
2. Cut out an arrow on each end with your utility knife (T2) on a mat (T1)
2. Cut out an arrow on each end with your utility knife (T2) on a mat (T1)

ASSEMBLY: STEP 1
Now it's time to begin assembly.
Step 1:
Slide the ten P4 tentacles into the ten slots next to the hole in your P3 Base Plate.

Slide the ten P4 tentacles into the ten slots next to the hole in your P3 Base Plate.
ASSEMBLY: STEP 2
Slide your P5 Head Strap into the rest of the slots next to the hole in your P3 Base Plate.
ASSEMBLY: STEP 3
Insert your P2 Top Arch into your P3 Base Plate.
ASSEMBLY: STEP 4
Insert this piece into both of your P1 Head Plate pieces.
