Jibaro Headdress

This instructable will show you how to make a head dress piece based on the episode "Jibaro" from Netflix's Love Death Robots.

You will need:

1 Empty and clean gallon plastic milk jug

1 Wide Headband

1 Narrow Headband

*Hot Glue and Hot Glue Gun* - Use Safety

Assorted costume jewelry including pearls.

Wide gold ribbon

Wide coin-embellished ribbon or belly dancer shawl.

Beads on a string ( Various Lengths 12"-18")

Stripped headband

Scissors

*Utility Knife* - Use Safety

Beading Wire

Needle and Thread

Marker

Styrofoam Mannequin Head

Optional: Black Bob wig, Jewelry Glue, Fabric Glue

The base structure is made of the plastic milk jug. You'll want to mark where you'll be cutting to make the shape of the headdress. It kind of ends up being bonnet shaped. You can always trim as needed.

After the shape is cut. Find the where the center would be by placing it on the mannequin head. Trim as needed until you're satisfied with the over all shape.

If you find the shape is a little too square at the top of the bonnet, you can pinch the plastic underneath and hot glue in place to make a more round shape.

Align your headband and mark where it will be lying under the plastic base. Carefully make slits on those marks with a utility knife. Use beading wire to hold the head band in place and tie off the ends. For extra hold you can use some dabs of hot glue between the headband and plastic.

Cut the seams on your headband and drape over the base while it's on the mannequin head. You'll want the stripes going across your head (ear to ear). Trim if needed and tuck cloth under plastic base and secure with hot glue.

This part is where it really starts looking fancy. I started with a length of a wide gold ribbon and cut it to length so there was some extra hanging on each side. You can cut parts of an old belly dancer shawl to have beads already sewn in a line or you can probably find something similar on a spool at a craft supply store.

I did not string any beads. You can buy already stringed beads or Mardi Gras beads would work too. To attach the strings of beads take your original wide gold ribbon and hot glue it under to form a loop this will be a loop you can pass the beads through. Then take thread and tighten that area so the bead strings stay in place. When worn, the beads will lay under your face.

You can continue to add little gold coins, jewelry and gems on the headband to your liking.

To add the big pearls on the sides of the headdress, I hot glued an old fake pearl bracelet to each side of the skinny headband. Use the base of the bracelet for a secure hold and for extra strength wrap and tie thread around. They will hang nicely like a cluster of pearls.

Have fun with your headdress. Complete the look with the siren's make up.
