Kylo Ren Lightsaber - How to DIY

KyloIsNotKyboRen-TFAT2-4KPub.jpg

Kylo Ren commands The First Order with his now iconic mask, and unconventional lightsaber as seen in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

This three bladed fiery weapon of evil is quite unique, enough to urge me to want to make one myself.

With my guide through video I will show you how to make Kylo Ren's lightsaber on a budget.

Getting Started/What You'll Need

Getting started with Ren's lightsaber means you'll need this list of materials. It's actually pretty simple.

Materials:

1-1/4 PVC pipe

1 inch PVC pipe

Cardboard

Craft foam

Popsicle sticks

toothpicks

Cap from milk gallon

Washers

FLEXiDIP - Black

Chrome/silver spray paint

Acrylic paint - black, gunmetal, silver, gold

Paint pens (optional) - silver, black, red, blue

Metal wire

Hot glue

Dremel/rotary tool

This list is fairly simple (you'll mostly be using cardboard, popsicle sticks, and toothpicks), and above all cheap and affordable!

The Bulk of the Project

The shape of the lightsaber is essentially completed and everything else is a matter of building on the small details that make up Kylo Ren's self made weapon.

Using reference photos cut shapes out of cardboard, and craft foam to be glued around the main PVC pipe, as well as the popsicle sticks that make up half of the hilt itself.

The next biggest step is to cover the entire hilt with black FLEXiDIP

The Most Essential Step

Once the FLEXiDIP dries, you are open to artistic interpretation for the MOST important part to making the lightsaber come to life, and that's painting!

Kylo Ren's lightsaber is full of intricate internal component pieces that can be serviced with cardboard and toothpick sticks.

For the bottom portion, which is a separate piece, you'll use:

Cap

Cardbaord strips

Craft foam strip

FLEXiDIP

This prop like my others is much easier to follow with the guide through video. This is a very visual process and explanation through text will not do justice.

However, I am very pleased with the result of this build.
