LED Dining Room Pendant Lamp Made of Cans

Hi people out there!

This is an instruction how to easily build a LED pendant Lamp for maybe your dining room. It is basically made of cans, G4 halogen sockets, some wire and G4 SMD LED light sources. I bought everything, except the cans, onEbay.

If you aren't into high voltage / current things, keep hands off this project!

First step is to make some drilled wire. I usually catch a long piece of wire (0,6mm²) and loop the middle of it around a doorknob. Then put the two end into an electric drill. Put the whole thin under tension, by pulling away the drill from the doorknob and start drilling the two wires into each other.

Cut the wire into pieces, depending how high is your ceiling and your desired height of your lamp.
Strip them off and put some solder on it. Be sure, the bended wire doesn't protrude the isolation.

Now cut off the wires of the G4 socket, solder the wire to the socket. I reused the silicone isolation, that came with the socket to prevent having a short circuit when the can is put over the socket.

Cutt off the bottom of your cans. Wash them, thoroughly. Drill a tiny Ø2,5mm hole trough the rivet on top of the can. You may also punch a hole into it. It is very a thin material.

Now, stick a LED into the socket and insert the open end into the hole you made into your can (from inside obviously).
Repeat previous steps, depending on the number of cans you want to hang up.

As canopy, I used a Illy Espresso can. Why? It is big enough to hold my transformer and it has a screwable lit.
Take the lit and drill #cans Ø2,5mm holes into it.
Insert the wires of your cans into the holes. Make a knot to prevent loosing the cans after having screwed the lit onto the canopy.

Put all wires in parallel. Almost done.

Attach the coffee lit upside down onto your ceiling. I uses a single screw...
Put the lit on the can and you're done!

Clan up your mess and enjoy your unique specimen!
