LED Skateboard Lamp With Wi-Fi Switch

Step-10c-Connect-your-Wifi-Adapter-to-Skatelamp.jpg

Here are all of the tools and supplies you'll need to get the same results as shown in the video. The Wifi switch is a nice touch but you don't need it if you're on a budget or if you'd rather just plug it in to turn it on. Regardless of what you decide to do, you can expect to complete this whole project in about 30 to 45 minutes.

Step 1: Cut Out and Peel Grip Tape

Step-1-Cut-Griptape.jpg
Step-2-Peel-Off-Griptape.jpg

Score a rectangle into the skateboard's grip tape with a razor blade(if you have a blank deck with no tape skip to Step 2). You don't have to be super careful or precise but you do want to use the same dimensions for both rectangles as you'll be using the cut-out in the next step.

Step 2: Find Center Point

Step-3a-Measure-Center-Point.jpg

Using a ruler or straightedge, draw to lines diagonally across your rectangular cut out. Where the lines intersect you will find your center point. Mark that point for your router.

Step 3: Drill Half Way Through With Router Bit

Step-5c-Drill-Through-Board.jpg

Using the router bit and a power drill, create a seat in the deck of the skateboard for the fixture hardware to be anchored. Be careful not to punch through the deck with the router.

Step 4: Drill Through Deck to Make Hole for Wiring

Step-5a-Drill-Through-Board.jpg

Use a drill to make a hole through the deck in order to pass the wires through.

Step 5: Attach Light Fixture to Deck Surface

Step-6a-Attach-Lighting-Fixture.jpg

Pass the wires through hole and seat the fixture on the outward facing side of the deck. In our example, the grip tape is on the back and the wrap on the outward face.

Step 6: Fasten Fixture

Step-6c-Attach-Lighting-Fixture-Nut-Fasten.jpg

Fasten the hex nut to the bolt protruding through the hole with needle nose pliers and onto the backside of the deck.

Step 7: Strip and Connect Wires

Step-7a-Wire-Stripping-And-Connections.jpg

Using your wire strippers, strip the ends of the black and white wires. Twist the strip ends together, joining black to black and white to white.

Step 8: Cap Connections

Step-7e-Wire-Stripping-And-Connections-(Hi-Res-Finished-Wiring).jpg

Twist the ends of the wires together as shown, tape and cap the connections. See video for the complete process.

Step 9: Screw in LED Light Bulbs

Step-9a-Attach-Lightbulbs-And-Test-Lights.jpg

When all wires are spliced, capped and connected you may screw in the LED light bulbs.

Step 10: Plug LED Skateboard Lamp Into Adapter

Step-10a-Connect-your-Wifi-Adapter-to-Skatelamp.jpg

Take the main plug and plug it into the WiFi adapter. Plug the adapter into an outlet. Using your preferred Wi-Fi control switch app, you can now turn your LED Skateboard Lamp on and off.
