LED Throwie Calendar

_MG_8961.JPG

Sure, it's only a 4 day calendar, but it's just an LED Throwie. Bigger calendars for bigger projects.

The intention is to only open one section per day, and put together the project over the course of how ever many days as there are components (in this case, 4).

Materials

  • 1/4" MDF
  • Glue
  • Tape
  • Double Sided Tape
  • Posterboard
  • Laser Cutter Files

You can also print the laser cutter files, tape them to your materials and cut them with whatever hand tools you like. But laser cutters are easier.

All Laser Cutted

All of the pieces required to make one box. Put pieces together and glue (I used wood glue).

You can see the laser cut paper here as well.

With the paper folder around the box to make creases, add components to boxes.

Also create directions. The directions I created don't allow the person opening each compartment to know what's happening before or after. Once the directions are made, cut it out and add it to the box. I put keys on each of the edges of my directions so people would know exactly what direction lined up with another.

Time for the Tape!

Place paper over components, flip whole assembly over and place on table. Tape sides together.

I used double sided tape for the last flap to make the seams look nice.

Finished Calendars

All finished and ready to hand out to people for opening.

In the future, I plan to add artwork to the outside of the case.

In case this wasn't enough...or still doesn't make sense...there's an overly long video of me showing how the DIY Calendar works.
