Lanyard From Mens Tie

I recently made a wallet out of a mens tie and I had the majority of the tie left. I didn't want to just throw it away because there was some great fabric there so decided to make a lanyard out of the rest of the material.

Here is what I used to make my tie lanyard

Mens Tie

Scissors

Key Ring

Sewing Machine

Remove Interfacing OfTie

I started by ripping the stitching out that connected the two ends of the tie together.

This helped me get inside the tie and pull out the interfacing. I wanted to get rid of the interfacing because it was a layer of fabric that I didn't need to bulk up the lanyard.

Sew Longways

After pulling out the interfacing I folded the fabric lengthwise and sew the ends together.

I did not worry about sewing on the wrong side of the fabric because I actually wanted the stitching to show in the final product.

To create symmetry I also did a stitching on the opposite side of the long fabric.

Add Key Ring

To add the key ring to the lanyard I folded the tie in half and slipped the key ring though the fabric to rest in the middle.

I then sewed the two sides of the lanyard together just above the key ring to keep the key ring in place.

Close Lanyard

Finally I sewed the two ends of the tie lanyard together to create the complete product.

I made sure that when I sewed the lanyard closed that the raw edges will rest on the inside behind the neck.

Finished

Now my lanyard was ready for use! I was very happy I could find a useful project to make out of the last of my tie!

Enjoy!
