Lanyard Repurposed
At almost any comercially sponsored event you'll be handed these lanyards (with ugly sponsor messages on them so you don't really want to wear them).
You might like to collect this junk anyway, knowing that it contains some parts which can be useful.

Cut Off the Usefull Parts
These parts I think are really good. Note that the plastic piece often is made so that the strap can be tightened too. The parts were obviously designed for something other than a lanyard.
Reattach Strap
Make the strap into a loop by sewing the metal part on one end and threading the plastic piece on the other end. The strap is done.
Now find some use for the parts left over.
