Laser Cut Grogger for Purim or Other Celebrations

I work at a Jewish day school in our maker lab. For the middle school students this year, we plan to open up the lab during the student's free time to allow for costume and prop design for Purim. One of the requests from students was to make a grogger. I created a template to cut out the pieces to assemble. I used 1/8 basswood for the build. If you use another thickness of wood, you will have to adjust for the difference in thickness.

-1/8 thickness basswood (as long as material is 1/8" thick, it will work.)

-Laser cutter

-Wood glue

Use the files in the supply list to cut out the project pieces. I created the file to use 1/8" basswood. You will need to alter the connection pieces if you use a different thickness of wood.

attach the two sides of the spinner wand together with a little glue and set aside to dry.

Add a dab of glue to each filler block and glue the 2 sets of 4 pieces together. You should end up with 2 blocks that are 4 layers of thickness high. let the glue dry until the layers are solid.

Glue the 2 filler blocks to one of the exterior pieces. glue the inner post in between the 2 filler blocks so that the inner post stands on edge. The height of the inner post on edge should be flush with the height of the filler blocks. Let the glue dry until the filler blocks are secure.

Insert one of the round stoppers on to the wand 1" down from the edge. Then insert the wand into the body of the spinner. Insert the 2 gears. Use a little glue to secure the gears and the round stopper to the wand, being careful not to glue to the body of the spinner.

Add glue to the filler boxes and attach the other ext body panel to the top. Use the round stopper and a little glue to secure the top panel. Once all the glue is dried, you should have working noise maker.
