Laser Engraved Paper Seals

This week we're laser engraving Delrin and creating seals out of it. We're using our Speedy 300 100 watt laser engraving machine and demonstrating how our JobControl laser software has specific features for creating male/female sides of the seal in one pass.

Use any artwork file in your design program as RGB black fill.

Go to print and select your Trotec laser.

In the Preferences section, under Material Settings, select "Delrin", and under the Process Options choose "Seal" under Process Mode.

The JobControl software will then automatically split the image into a male and female section can be inserted into one and other, so when we put the paper in between a seal is created.

Next we put our delrin into our Trotec laser machine, engrave and cut with the settings below.

Laser: Trotec Speedy 300 80w

Engrave: 40 power, 9 speed, 500 PPI, Air Assist ON, 0.12 z-offset

Cut: 100 power, 0.65 speed, 1000 PPI, Air Assist ON, 0 z-offset

The male part of the seal needs to be on the bottom section of the insert. The insert is labelled "up" side and "bottom" side.

Pull the cover off the double-sided round adhesive circle and put it in the bottom section of the insert. You only have one shot at this since the adhesive is quite strong.

Then peel the cover off the other side of the adhesive circle.

Do the same for the upside

We make sure we put the male side on the bottom first.

If you notice JobControl automatically makes a notch to tell you how to line it up with the insert.

There's another notch on the seal insert itself, just alight the delrin with the insert notches and press hard for a few seconds for the adhesive to bond.

Then take the female delrin seal, stick it on top of the male seal, make sure it's positioned perfectly (it should fit in easily).

Then with your fingers push down on the top part of the insert as hard as you can.

Now you have top and bottom ready to go.

We then place the insert into the stamp mechanism.

We make sure the teeth are aligned with the holder at the bottom of the insert, simply slide and you should hear a "click" sound.

We use standard office paper for this demonstration. Most professionals like to use a thicker paper for these seals.
