Latte Macchiato

Have you ever been to Starbucks? Well, if your answer is yes, you’ve probably realized that the prices are pretty expensive. A simple coffee can cost between 4 and 7 dollars. And if you go to Starbucks every day and buy something in that price range, you could end up spending hundreds, or even a thousand dollars, in a year—which I think is a lot of money.

So, I thought, why not make my own Latte Macchiato? It is easy to make and it only costs 70 cents:

25 cent for coffee

25 cent for milk

10 cent for whipping cream

10 cent for sugar

(a regular Latte Macchiato at Starbucks costs 6.65 Dollars)

If you go to Starbucks every day for a year and buy a Latte Macchiato you would have spent ($6,65 x 365) = $ 2,427.25. Instead if you would have made a Latte Macchiato by yourself every day for a year it would only cost ($0,70 x 365) = $255.50.

So in total you would have saved $2,171.75!!!

You will need to make one Latte Macchiato:

  1. 2 teaspoons coffee
  2. whipped cream ( you can add as much as you prefer)
  3. 300 g milk
  4. water
  5. coffee machine
  6. vanilla sugar (optional)

Making the Coffee

In this instructable, I will show you how to make a Latte Macchiato using a traditional (non-electric) coffee maker.

The coffee maker consists of three parts: the base, the filter basket, and the lid. When you twist your coffee maker open, you'll notice that the inside of the base has a small notch near the edge. Fill the base with cold water up to this notch.

Next, fill the filter basket with ground coffee up to the top, then place it onto the base. Twist the lid tightly back onto the base to seal everything securely.

Place the coffee maker on your stove and turn the heat to the medium setting.

Making the Foam Milk

Now, wait 5–10 minutes for the coffee to brew. At this point, you could simply add milk and enjoy a regular, delicious (but perhaps boring) coffee. However, if you want to make a Latte Macchiato, there are a few more steps to follow, including adding foamed milk and whipped cream.

In the next steps, I’ll show you exactly how to do that.

Let’s start by making the foamed milk. It’s important to prepare the foamed milk first because if you make the whipped cream beforehand, the bubbles in the cream would deflate, leaving you with a soupy texture—which I’m pretty sure you don’t want!

  1. Pour 300g of milk into a bowl.
  2. Heat the milk in the microwave for about 20 seconds.
  3. Use an electric mixer or a handheld mixer to froth the milk. Mix for about 2 minutes until it becomes bubbly and foamy.

Making the Whipping Cream

Making whipped cream is pretty simple. If you’ve bought store-bought, ready-made whipped cream, you just need to wait a little longer, and once your coffee is ready, you can simply add the whipped cream.

However, if you’re making it from scratch, here’s how:

  1. Pour your cream into a separate bowl.
  2. Use a mixer to whip the cream. Keep mixing until it becomes really nice and fluffy.
  3. If you like things a little sweeter, you can add a bit of vanilla sugar for extra flavor.

Making the Coffee Together

All that’s left to do is combine everything: the foamed milk, whipped cream, and the freshly brewed coffee.

By now, your coffee should be ready. Pour it into a large glass (be careful—the coffee maker might still be hot!). Next, add your foamed milk, allowing it to settle on top of the coffee.

Finally, add the whipped cream. You’ll need to work quickly to prevent the bubbles in the whipped cream from deflating. If your whipped cream sinks into the coffee, it’s likely that you didn’t whip it enough.

Toppings

There are lots of toppings you can add to enhance your Latte Macchiato. Here are some ideas:

Cocoa Powder

I like to use cocoa powder because it adds sweetness and a rich, chocolaty flavor that pairs perfectly with the coffee.

Powdered Sugar

Powdered sugar is another great option for added sweetness. Just be mindful—it might make your Latte Macchiato a little thicker.

Straws

If you’ve added a generous amount of whipped cream, sipping directly from the glass might get messy. That’s why I like to use straws—they make drinking easier and less messy.

ENJOY!
