Lego IPhone Speaker Stand

I've looked around a bit, and to my great surprise, I have not seen very many iPhone/phone speaker stands (I've seen plenty of charging docks though). Thus this Instructable was born!

I will be showing you how to make a simple, effective iPhone speaker stand. It amplifies the sound a little, but it's main purpose is to direct the sound in a more specific direction rather than all over the place like it usually does. With the simpleness of this design, it is easy to switch the speaker hole to the other side (which is useful if you have an iPod touch; just put the stand on it's side to accommodate an iPod!)!

This is also meant to be an as-cheap-as-free alternative to an iHome, which indeed is quite above my budget. Although it does not have the quality of an iHome, it certainly is better than being in debt for a year to pay for one.

These are the parts I used for this, but you can substitute any parts of this with whatever you happen to have:

Blocks:

   - 4 1x10

   - 1 2x3
   - 1 2x4
   - 1 4x10
   - 1 1x1 Smooth
   - 1 2x2 Smooth
   - 2 1x3
   - 2 2x10
   - 2 1x2 Smooth

And one iPhone!

Instead of trying to explain in words how to put the Legos together, I will let the pictures say all.

What I will do however, is provide helpful information you may need.

For this step, you will need to try to keep the base as simple as possible. If you have an 8x10 plate, by all means use it for the bottom. The jutting edge with slates on top is where the sound will be coming out.

These next few layers add bulk to the stand to help balance the weight of the iPhone. And it provides the base to hold the iPhone.
Also, it makes a nice sound hole (which is the whole point of this Instructable).

If some adjustments need to be made, it would have to be done in this step so you don't have to take it all apart to change it.

This is the part that holds up the iPhone. If you don't have the tall pillar things, you could just use 5 1x8 blocks and add the last top one (which is used to hold the pillars together).

The last four pictures show how to add optional arms to hold the iPhone, but they are not needed.

And last, but most definitely not least; insert the iPhone into the stand, turn it on and let the music flow!

Now you have your very own iPhone Speaker stand, without the use of hundreds of dollars!
