I like lighting swords from science fiction movies.

So in this project I make a Lightning sword using some simple things.

Also you can use this for cosplay with some superhero costume.

Let's make this sword

Design is the first step for making any project.

For Simple and small design i use Tinkercad but for this Lightning Sword project i use Autodesk Fusion360.

It is very easy and contains more tools compared to Tinkercad.

Blade design is easy.

  • Make a 600 straight line offset that line to 30 mm.
  • Joint both lines from one side.
  • Make some curve shapes on the other side and join them.
  • I use Nut and bolt assembly to join the blade with grip part.
  • I make 4 holes where the blade joins the grip part.

Grip part.

In this lighting sword, we have 2 option or alternative.

Option 1. Make a sword with inbuilt LED & battery.

Option 2 > make Sword for Showcase and use external 12 v LED strip and adapter.

I consider both in design.

If You want to change the option after making the first option, you can change.

Just you need to add an internal Li-ion battery power bank,5V LED strip and switch, which is enclosed inside the Grip part. you need to take measurement of each part and fit inside enclosure grip.

Else feel free to use my design .

If you go with option 2 , you need a 12 v battery adapter.

  • I Use  Option 2 and use a 12 v external LED & Power supply.

Laser Cutting Blade

I use Clear 2mm acrylic for the blade.

I cut the same design 3 times in 2mm acrylic and join it with glue later.

For laser cutting yo need .dxf file

Check out below Laser Cutting design for laser cut acrylic.

3d Print Grip

If you choose any option you need Grip to make with 3d Printing.

I design the grip by considering option 1 for the internal battery option and placing the switch on top.

I have Ender-3 3d printer.

Use below parameter for good printing.

3D Print parameter

Layer height : 0.2

Wall :3

Top / bottom : 4

Infill: 30%

Material PLA

Speed: 40 mm/s

Support : on

Adhesion: Brim

Assembly.

For assembly we use M4x30mm bolt and hex nut other side to connect the Blade part and grip.

For option 1>

If you choose an internal battery, use a 5v LED strip and switch.

It's easy to fit the battery and switch hhh inside.

Solder some wire for connect the switch battery and LED strip.

For option 2 >

For option 2 we place a 12v LED stick on the longer side of the blade and connect it with an adapter.

Plug adapter in socket and light it up.
