Lithophane LED Modules (nanoleaf Alternative)
In this project, I used led strip and lithophane photo to make decoration panels. Each module is a hexagon panel and can be used to make different shapes (nanoleaf alternative).
The instruction to make hexagon lithophane and the assembling process can be found in this video https://youtu.be/MJjva_eWyg8
Make Your Hexagon Lithophane Photo
You will need my Blender file to make the lithophane photo. Instructables does not support the Blender file so I uploaded it here https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4761713
You can follow the instruction in the youtube video. If you don't want to use lithophane photo, you can print the photo.stl file. It is a flat photo and works like a diffuser
Assemble the Module
For each light panel, you will need
- 0.5m of LED strip,
- the hexagon frame for the LED,
- the lithophane photo
- the photo frame.
If you don't want to use lithophane photo, you can print the photo.stl file. It is a flat photo and works like a diffuser.
Mounting the Panels
You can use glue gun to fix the endings of the strips. You can arrange all the hexagon modules on the wall according to your pattern. To attach them on the wall, I use
- the command poster strip which can be easily removed when I need to change my pattern.
- the double clip to fixed the connection cable between modules.

Power You Panels
The final step is adding the controller and power supply for your panels. It depends on the type of LED you chose. I used the 2812b with the bluetooth controller so I can use my cellphone as a remote. There are many choices so pick whatever you feel like and enjoy.
Happy making.
