Little Girls Hair Accessory
I made my granddaughter this tutu and matching headband for her 3rd birthday. There are several good tutorials out there on how to make a little girls tutu. I wanted to make her a hair accessory to wear with it. I found a mens purple shirt at the thrift shop that matched really well with the tutu.
Supplies
Fabric, (I used a cotton shirt from the thrift shop) about 1/3 yard, 4" x 4" piece of plastic canvas, purchased headband, straight pins, measuring tape, needle and thread.
Cover Plastic Canvas With Fabric
Cut 2 circles out of the fabric. 6" in diameter. Place the plastic canvas circle on top of one of the fabric circles. fold edges of fabric over, place other fabric circle on top of that and fold edges under, pinning in place.
Sew Ruffle on Edge
Cut a strip of tulle 20" long by 3" wide. Fold tulle in half lengthwise. gather the edge that is not folded until it fits around the fabric covered circle. (about 14") pin to the edge and hand stitch in place.
Make Fabric Roses
Cut a strip of fabric 2" wide and 12" long. fold in half lengthwise. using a needle and thread, sew a running stitch the entire length on the raw edge. gather until the strip is 8" long. Begin rolling up from one end, hand stitching every couple of inches. I made 5 roses out of fabric and 4 out of tulle.
Sew Roses on Circle
Arrange roses on the fabric covered circle and hand sew in place.
Sew Circle on Headband
I purchased a headband that was covered in purple fabric. It was easy to hand sew the circle of roses to it. You may also attach with a hot glue gun. I think it turned out nice and my Granddaughter loved it. It is the perfect accessory for her tutu.
