Locate the States Makey Makey Project

IMG_5348.jpg

What i have made is a project that is all about learning and locating the states. I have chosen the southern part of America because not many people tend to know the bottom half of America’s states. The reason i made it is so more people learn where the states are located. This project is directed towards smaller kids since they are still learning the geography of America, i think it’s very helpful for the memorization of the 50 states, at least part of them.

Supplies

-Copper wire

-CD Disk holder

-Makey Makey

-Paper Cutouts

-Glue/Sticky Tack

-Alligator Clips

-Extension Makey Makey Wires

-Glitter Paper

Scratch Program

First I created a Scratch Program based on my idea for my project. In creating my program i used when pressed blocks to show that when a certain key is pressed some action shall happen. I programmed my code so that when you touch a specific letter on the makey makey, a state would show up

Paper Printing

After, coming up with the idea and doing the code, i came up with a way to make this all interactive. I decided that i wanted to have paper labels of all the states. So after deciding my states i printed logos of each one.

Cutting

When i had all the labels printed, i then proceeded to cut them all out so i had each state in a different rectangular shaped cut out.

Getting Base

I then figured out what i wanted my base of my states to be, i used the cd base.

Taping Wire

Then i took each cut out and taped copper wire tape to the back of each piece of paper

Attaching Paper

I then stuck each piece of paper on to the CD and put a little piece of glitter tissue paper for aesthetic effects

Makey Makey Steps

Now comes the makey makey steps, first i connected the alligator clip to the right letter/key on the makey makey, and for the letters i used the extension wire and connected the alligator clip, then i connected the usb into my computer and tested my code.

Then i connected and alligator clip to my ring to complete the conductor circuit.

Finished Project

My project basically helps you learn the southern states of the U.S. Since the copper wire is conductive, when you press it the whole objective is that the state shows up if you get it right. Its an ask and answer interactive game and great for learning new things!!
