IMG_20221029_093950.jpg

Hi Everyone! So this is just a simple guide on how to replace the low beam light on your Hyundai I30. This was done on a I30 from 2008, i believe it ranges the model year from 2007, up to 2011.

In the Car service Manual, it is referred that unfortunately in this car, it is necessary to remove the headlamp in order to replace the bulbs.

So, i'm elaborating this little guide to show you how i have done in my car.

Your experience might vary.

No Guarantees, please proceed with caution, and at your own risk.

Edit: Please feel free to use bence.zahalka tips from the first comment, before trying to remove the front bumper.

What is necessary:

  • The Low Beam Lamp: Lamp type - H7 12v 55W;
  • Philips screwdriver;
  • Flathead screwdriver;
  • Socket Wrench Kit, head sizes 8 to 10mm;
  • Needle pliers might be handy;
  • Some patience.

Loosening Front Bumper - Wheel Arch

The first required step is to loosen the front bumper, in the side that the lamp is going to be replaced. It's not necessary to fully remove the bumper.

I have started first to remove the hex screw located inside the wheel arch, if i'm not mistaken, number 8mm.

Loosening Front Bumper - Front Grill Area

The second step is to continue to loosen the front bumper, near the front grill area, of course, after opening the hood. To proceed with this, i used a philips screwdriver.

Just removed the plastic screws hyundai uses, with needle pliers and the philips screwdriver. I have removed 5 in total, in the side i needed to replace the lamp.

Loosening the Bumper - Opening a Gap

After Removing these necessary screws, i started to slowly and gently making some pressure towards the outside on the front bumper, starting in the area next to the wheel arch.

It easily should become free, there is a plastic fixture holding the bumper to the structure, but with some patience its grips will become free. I had a bit of trouble with a last grip, just under the start of headlamp, but i just used a flat screwdriver to pull the grip down, loosening the front bumper, in the side area.

Next i advanced by grabbbing with one hand the front grill area, and with the other hand pulling and moving the side area of the front bumper. With this, the grips under the headlamp got loose and the bumper was with enough gap to pull the headlamp towards to access the lamp that needed to be replaced.

Headlamp - Getting Some Working Space

OK, so the next step was to partially remove the headlamp. There is a total of 3 hex screws, that i removed with a socket wrench with a 10mm head.

Two of this screws are in the top of the lamp, easily accessible. Just got these removed without any problems.

The next one was a bit more trickier... it is i in the back part of the headlamp, but with an extension for the socket wrench, it can be removed without problems as well.

After this, just jiggled a bit the headlamp forward and it came loose. moving it forward.

With this i had enough space to open the low beam light protection gasket and replace the lamp.

Opening the Gasket and Replacing the Bulb

To open the protection gasket was very simple. just rotated it counter clockwise, then there is the electrical plug.

I removed the electrical lamp plug, and moved the metal spring front and to one side to be able to free the bulb.

Then just replaced the bulb.

Finish by Assembling Everything

After replacing the lamp i just tested to make sure everything was ok and the light were fully functional.

Once this was done, the final step was to assemble everything by following the steps in reverse order.

This was a quick job, but not so easy as many other car models, where it is not necessary to disassemble car parts to allow us to replace a bulb.

I hope this instructable is useful for someone.

I had a great time doing this simple car maintenance and instructable.

Cheers!
