Luxurious and Stunning Marble Candle (That You Can Easily Make With Materials Lying Around Your House!)
Looking for a luxurious and stunning Christmas present that is easy to make with materials that are lying around at home? Look no further, this pristine marble candle will certainly stand out. Inspired by the abstractness of nature, this candle spreads a refreshing and palatial vibe and is a must make.
Supplies
An old small/medium sized flower pot (for the candle mold)
Candle Wax (I used soya wax, though you can even use wax from candle scraps)
Candle Wicks (Don't limit yourself to store bought wicks! If you don't have candle wicks you can easily make one from cotton string or even old fabric!)
Parchment Paper
Fragrance of your choice (optional)
Nail Polish (For the opulent marble effect! You can choose any two colors; I chose an alluring green and a pristine red color for the holiday season.)
Acrylic Gold Paint (optional but adds another dimension of beauty to the candle)
a Plastic Bag
and lots of love!
Measuring the Soya Wax
Using the old flower pot, decide how big or small you would like your candle to be by pouring the wax in the pot until you are satisfied with the size.
Melting the Wax
Pour the wax into a saucepan heated to 200 degrees Fahrenheit and wait for the wax to completely melt. You can then add the fragrance; I chose cinnamon. Depending on the amount of wax you have, you will have to add more or less fragrance; I would just do small drops at a time until there is noticeable but not too strong scent. Make sure to give a gentle stir so that the scent mixes with all of the wax.
Aligning the Flower Pot Mold
While the wax is melting, align the flower pot with parchment paper. This will make sure the wax does not stick to the inside of the flower pot. It will also give the candle an abstract though circular shape which adds to its splendor and makes it look more natural.
Pouring the Melted Wax Into the Mold
Pour the wax into the flower pot mold and then add the wick. I used a wooden wick though as previously mentioned you can use any type of wick; even homemade ones!
Let the Candle Dry!
Now comes the hard part: waiting for it to dry! It took mine around 3.5 hours to dry.
Smoothening the Candle
Once the candle had dried, I used a the longer end of a pasta maker to smoothen the surface area. This still kept the abstract and natural look, though made it more uniform.
Preparation for Marbling the Candle
Here comes the luxurious look! Start by aligning the plastic bag in a bowl or bucket that is bigger than the size of your candle. Then fill water in the plastic bag like shown in the first picture. Then pour your first color of nail polish over the water and give it a very gentle stir; just until you see a beautiful marble design formed by the nail polish in the water. The way this works is that nail polish doesn't dissolve into water so when you dip the candle into the water only the nail polish will stick to the candle.
Marbling the Candle!
Now dip the part of the candle that you want colored with the first color you chose. That part of the candle will absorb the nail polish with its design and leave the water clean. Now you can add your second color and as done previously give a gentle stir and then dip the other part of the candle in which you want your second color to be.
Add the Gold Finish
Using a medium sized paintbrush and acrylic gold paint, gently paint in between the two colors once the nail polish has dried.
Done!
Wishing you all a joyous holiday season! I hope you enjoyed this Instructable!
