Magic the Gathering: a Commander Deck
I have built a magic the gathering commander deck and I wish to help you build one too. For this you will need an average understanding of the basics of magic before getting into this instructable. Which means you will have to at least understand how the game is played.
Supplies
- you will need a huge pile of random cards at the very least. Some people just buy cards off the internet but we just need a bulk box or so at the very least
- We need at least 1 creature with the legendary subtype, for this example we will be using a card named Kyler, Sigardian Emissary. This means our deck can only be green and white, this changes depending on the legendary creature you choose.
Land Cards
find about 30 or so lands for this deck, we need at least 30 because its an average number for decks. For complete beginners you should start with just 15 plains and 15 forests, for more experienced players they can include more special lands.
Spells (everything That Isn't a Land Is Considered a Spell)
This is the meat and potatoes of the deck, There are multiple types of cards in magic, these include: creatures, instants, sorceries, artifacts, and enchantments. I will go into more detail on each individual card type and how many I recommend in the deck
Creatures
Creatures, The commander outright says he likes humans, so as you can expect we will be playing a lot of humans in this deck. approximately 35 humans and/or creatures that like humans will work for this deck. extra tips will be to avoid non-human cards that don't like humans, or non green and/or white cards.
Instants and Sorceries
Instants and sorceries are the only types of spells that don't stay on the field after you cast them. We don't entirely NEED them but instants and sorceries usually help you either help yourself or hurt others, so about 10 or less of each. It's also weird that there are little instants and sorceries that care a lot about humans. Luckily Kyler also says he likes +1/+1 counters. (+1/+1 counters are counters that increase the power and toughness of the creature they sit on by 1 power and 1 toughness, for each counter.) We can add instants and sorceries into the deck that increase +1/+1 counters or gain benefits off of the counters.
Miscellaneous
This Is the last 35-40 cards in the deck, this can be artifacts, enchantments or even planeswalkers. It doesn't entirely matter too much right now because you'll learn more about your deck the more you play with it so I recommend slapping any card that looks or sounds good into these spots.
Find Someone to Play With
this is the hardest step, not a ton of people know how to play the game. But all that matters is you have determination in your heart and google to help answer questions that weren't answered in this intractable. anyways if you succeed at this step, have fun and have a nice day
