Make Portable Air Heater at Home
Hey guys in this instructables I will show you how to make this amazing and simple air heater at your home using materials that can be found at home easily.
you can beat the cold with this small and portable air heating device that is powered by rechargeable batteries.
I have made this project using some of the reused materials.
What does our air heater do?
If you just came from outside or feeling very cold inside your home you can just switch on this device and sit in front of it while you can warm your hands or body up from the air coming from this device.
Very useful when you need to quickly beat the cold!
Supplies
Here are the list of materials that you will need to make this air heater
- Soda can
- Mini pc fan
- Nichrome wire
- Cutter
- Sand Paper
- 4 lithium ion batteries
- 2 battery holder
- Nail polish remover
- Small wooden piece
- Epoxy bond
- Some wires
- Old metal compass
- Metal mesh
- Person who wants to get warm!!
Cleaning Soda Can
Did you know that you can clean the paint of soda can by just rubbing the nail polish remover on the surface
I will be using a small piece of cloth to which I applied few drops of nail polish remover and rubbed slowly on top of the soda can surface.
End of this process I got some of the paint work removed but as I think it is the time consuming process I accelerated this process by sliding my cutter gently over the top surface of the soda can.
It will take some time to get all the pain surfaces removed, But this is easy compared to rubbing nail polish remover all over the surface.
After you have the paint surface removed, remove the top and bottom of soda can.
You can use combination of cutter and art knife for this purpose.
After teh surface is cut rub the surface using sand paper to make the edges smooth.
Also make holes at the body of soa can as shown in last image of this step
Preparing Heating Material
For the heating material I will be using pieces of nichrome wire, to make this as a heating element just encircle these pieces of nichrome wire over toothpick until it has the shape of coil I will be using two coils.
Since we have to deal with a lot of temperature I will prefer using thick wire of copper so that it won't get burnt of when the power is supplied.
Later join these 2 nichrome wire coils as shown in the last image
Finishing Up
I will be using this epoxy putty which is supposed to be mixed with the two elements one acts as glue and one is the Binder, Mix these both
LATER CUT THE SHARP EDGES FROM COMPASS, We will use this as our stand
Why epoxy putty?
in our project as we deal with heat we can't use super glue hot blue so I would think using epoxy would be the best option
you can use this is as binding material
Use it wherever required for support- the metal mesh and for the PC fan winding I will be using this
it will take around 2 hours of time to completely get all the joints dry and ready for use
Control Panel
We will be controlling this entire circuit with the help of days small control panel.
I have reused a small box from my car audio player to keep in place all of this electronic components.
I have added to switches that controls two battery holders one of the battery holder will be connected to PC fan and other battery holder will be connected to the nichrome heating wire.
While working First you should switch on the nichrome heating wire switch followed by turning on the PC fan switch.
Testing
All you have to do is first switch on the button of nichrome heating wires after three or four seconds you can switch on the PC fan.
PC fan withdraws air from the surrounding temperature and passes over these nichrome heated coils as a result you will have a very warm air.
I don't have any temperature measurement device I use this thermometer to show you the values as an example to show its working, as expected it shows very high temperature as the limit of this thermometer is to measure only 108 degree Fahrenheit above this it shows high and its the same case in our project
