Make This Simple Seashell Mobile

We have been keeping ourselves very busy making lots of jewelry out of shells. Chloe enjoys coloring the shells with felt pens and threading wool through the holes to make bracelets and now a shell mobile.

Also, I have had a few questions about how we drilled the holes in the shells. We actually found the shells with holes in them, which I have been told are made by sand snails.

What you need:

Seashells

Driftwood

Felt pens

Twine

Scissors

Instructions:

  • Clean the shells with soapy water and set them out on a tray to dry in the sun.
  • Decorate the shells with felt pens or paint.

  • Measure three different lengths of twine. It’s really up to you how long you want the mobile length to be.

  • Tie a double knot near the bottom of your first piece of twine. This is where you want your bottom shell to hang.

  • Now thread the twine through the first shell. Leave about 1 inch from the shell and tie a knot. Keep following this process until you have added all the shells in your first row. Follow the previous steps for the other two rows.

  • Tie the three rows of shells to the driftwood.
  • Attach a piece of twine to both ends of the driftwood to hang up the mobile.

Now, it’s ready to hang wherever there is a slight breeze. Watch them move in the wind!
