Make Your Drone More Visible at Night!
Have trouble seeing your drone at night? I had trouble seeing my drone at night, and while some super high end drones have a super bright light built into them, mine does not. The colored lights built into the drone were alright for visibility, but this project will take drone lighting and visibility at night to the next level! I was surprised at how well this worked as I didn’t think a penlight would make a huge difference in drone visibility at night, but wrong I was! It actually acted as a spotlight for the drone, and I was very impressed.
Supplies
You will need:
-A drone
-Masking tape
-A penlight or a cheap keychain light that they give out for free at fairs
-A Dime or coin of a similar size
Prep the Light
First, grab your drone, the light, and the tape. Tear off a piece of tape that will wrap around your light a few times, then place your light on top of the sticky side of the tape. It should be towards the end of the tape because you will want room for the other end of the tape to wrap around. Grab the dime and place it on top of the light so that most of the keychain light’s button is covered. At this point, you may be wondering, “Why do I need a dime to put on top of the button? Can’t I just tape the button to the on position without the dime?” I tried doing it without the dime, and it actually didn’t work as well as when I tried it with the dime. Take the longer end of the tape and pull it up to cover the dime. Make sure you pull very tightly as you want to make the light stay on. Secure the end onto the other side of the light, and continue wrapping the remaining parts of the tape around the light until you run out of tape. Be sure to pull very tightly on the tape to help the light stay on.
Secure Your Light
Next, tear off a piece of tape that will wrap around the body of your drone and the light a few times. Place your light on the top of your drone, then secure it by wrapping the tape around the light and the drone a few times. Go outside and fly your illuminated drone!
