Make Your Own Real Sword !
Ever wanted to be fruit ninja ? Now you can! Make your own sword that can slice through anything in its path.
This was a fun project and got to put a few skills into practise.
Check out a video on how its made here
The Whole Point..
Grab a pencil and mark out a point at the end of a length of steel I used a 2 x 35 x 380 mm but you can make them any size you want..
Then cut it with a hacksaw and grind the edges down.
Put an Edge on It..
Using a belt sander and a file i slowly sharpened the edges and sharpened the point, pay attention to what angle you sharpen at because if you want to find a balance between a knife edge and an axe edge so it is sharp but the edge isnt fragile.
Preparing for Stress
I used a torch to heat up the metal in-between the handle and the start of the edge so that that part of the steel will be softer so it can absorb the force from hitting things.
Can You Handle It ?
I found some extra length of steel and cut it in half then I used those pieces to lock the blade in place as show in image 2, I drilled holes to attach pins and also some extra ones to allow for the epoxy to have something to grab onto.
Finishing the Handle
I got the pins of with a hacksaw then I drew a handle out, I then used a hacksaw, powerfile and a lot of elbow grease to get the handle to shape, an angler grinder with sanding disk would have helped but I need to buy a new one.
I then screwed on a cheap leather belt and coloured in the edges.
Get Slicing!
Its important that you take care when swinging around a sharp length of metal....but have fun anyway
