The first thing that you want to do is figure out what you want your night light to look like! The one that I have pictured here I decided to do the state of Michigan. There are two shapes that you will need. The cut out shape ( michigan ) and the outlining shape (the square around michigan) These shapes should be vector with the stroke of .003, this is to tell the laser cutter that you want to cut through the material.

Cut Out Your Materials!

The first cut will be with both shapes. This cut will be done on the wood.

The second cut will be done on the acrylic material, this cut will just be the outline so the end product is rectangles the same size as the rectangle of with the shape cut into it.

Sand and Finish Wood

This next step is a little messy, but don't worry, It's a fun one!

At this point you will need to get out your sand paper and your wood finish. Use a fine grain sand paper and sand the surface of your wood. wipe away the dust. Then apply your wood finish. I used a beeswax on mine, which you apply, wait twenty minutes and wipe off. This part is fun because it makes the wood look beautiful!

Glue Your Pieces Together!

Get out your super glue! Glue the wood to the acrylic. And let dry.
