Make a Detailed Paper Lighthouse and Windmill Craft on Found Rock's or Stone's
Hey everyone!!! I have had this idea in the back of my mind for so long, but for some reason I thought it was some complicated thing...But after going to a park & picking a few rocks, hacking them to size.....I had an idea.
You can do this model with any building, but I used a Lighthouse, and windmill.
I LOVE how these turned out, I made three other ones and gifted them to my sisters, they love em'
Les go.
Supplies
This project's difficulty depends on how much detail + size you want, so the tools are Super simple!!!
- Glue (PVA, school, or white glue (NOT SUPERGLUE))
- Precision knife (Scissors are USELESS for this!!!)
- Some rocks (sourcing them is the fun part you can go long, short, flat, round, whatever!!!)
- Card-stock Paper (Watercolor paper is the BEST!!!)
That's it...
Find some rocks:
Make sure you you have permission to collect rocks!!! I sourced them from beside a road.
And whenever you get one, don't over-collect, save some for the others!!!
Follow laws!
WINDMILL: the Base
Since the rock is not a perfect flat shape (if it is than you are blessed) we need to make a flat base with some paper.
Since I was making an "industrial" type building I thought a latices style base front would do.
Free-hand it! first sketch it out 2ith a pencil, than cut it out.
Glue it to the stone.
WINDMILL: Walls + Windows
My building is 1CM width and 2CM long, and around 1CM tall.
Add a small sheet on top of it as well.
Glue it to the paper base on top of the rock.
The windows are SO small that I just use the tip of the knife and press gently down. it wil give you small windows!
make as many as you wish!
ADD A ROOF TO!
WINDMILL: Mill-wheel
Here are the steps:
- Cut out two thin strips of paper.
- Use a marker to marker to determine how wide the radius should be.
- Cut out MANY small pieces.
- Glue them to both sides and build the shape that way going around and gluing the small parts.
WINDMILL: Small Details
The build is in the details!
I cut out TWO ladders, and a small water drop type shape, to simulate the water wheel in action!
I also added a small crumple of paper to simulate brush, and foliage.
I also cut out a few people as well!!!
PT.2: "THE LIGHT-HOUSE"
For the second build I first sketched out the basic shape of the lighthouse body and traced it onto a peice of paper.
I then rolled it up, and cut it at an angle that would fit my SPECIFIC rock.
Glue a circle base to the top, and glue the whole assembly TO the rock.
LIGHTHOUSE: Roof + Windows
For the top, I made a shallow cone & a small spire, I glued it to the top of the building.
LIGHTHOUSE: Detail Ideas
I made a conifer tree, just remeber to keep it looking organic, and natural make trees in odd numbers. 1, 3, 5, 7, etc
I cut out the shape and twisted it to make it 3D.
Here are some ideas!:
- Tire swing
- more small pebbles glued on the base-rock
- a ladder
- a car
- a bike
- a group of people (this would look EPIC)
DONE!!!
They look...ELEGANT
I have them on my desk right now, & I cant stop looking at them!!!!! they look so "satisfying" in there monochrome simplistic charm....
I truly hope you make one, its always better if you make a few though!!!
Thank you so much for stopping by & I can't wait to see what you all do.
PEACE!!!
