Make a King Tut/Pharaoh Head Piece From an Old Hat

I could not find an acceptable King Tut or Pharaoh head piece for a costume. (Google them, they are terrible!) I got the idea how to make this when I wrapped my wet hair in a towel. This is how I made it:
Supplies

Picture
Striped Material
Old Cap
Ruler
Chalk
Scissors
Pins
Thread
Cardstock or Cardboard
Your Knee
Find a Picture

Find a picture online of a head piece of a pharaoh or King Tut.
Buy Some Striped Fabric

Buy some striped fabric maybe about a yard and a half.
Get an Old Cap

Get an old cap. (One you can cut up.) Use scissors and cut off the bill.
Measure Fabric

Take your fabric and fold the end under about 5 inches. Make sure the stripes are running up and down.
Put Cap on Your Knee

Now here’s where your knee comes in. Put the cap on your knee as if it was someone’s head.
Lay That Folded Part on the Hat

Now take the material and lay that folded part on the hat. Make sure the stripes are vertical.
Pin It to Hat

Bring the material down to the edge of the front of the hat and tuck it under an inch or so. Take your pins and pin this to the front part of the hat.
Tuck in Sides

Put it back on your knee, now tuck in the sides as shown. The stripes on the sides hanging down will be horizontal, while the stripes on the forehead part will be vertical.
Pin and Measure

Pin the sides to the hat. Take your ruler and measure how long the sides are. You might want to try it on a person to see where the sides hang on the persons shoulders.
Draw Shape

Look at the picture you have. See how the sides are shaped? Draw that shape onto the cardboard and cut it out. (These will be inside the sides to hold its shape.)
Align Cardboard

Align the straight edge of the cardboard with the fold on the side. Remember you had turned under 5 inches, so the part under the cardboard is actually a double layer 5 inches wide. Pin the cardboard to the side of the material. Take your scissors and cut out a space where the shoulder will go. Remember to leave half an inch around this cut out so you have a little seam allowance when you sew it. Do this on the other side too.
Unpin

Now unpin the fabric from the hat, and lay it inside out flat on the floor, and refold as shown. (It’s hard to tell, but this is inside out.)
Make Pocket

You will be make the pocket for the cardboard sides to slip into. Pin the sides together.
Sew Pocket

Sew up the sides for the pocket for the cardboard.
Turn Right Side Out

Turn the sides right side out. Slip the cardboard into the packets, (you may not need to.)
Turn in the raw edges around the shoulder holes, pin and sew.
Repin

Now repin it back to the cap.
Sew

Stitch the front of the fabric to the front of the cap.
Try on and Check Sides.

Put the cap back on your knee. See how the sides hang.
Check Length

Have someone try it on. Check the length.
Trim

Trim the back to the right length.
Hem

Fold under all raw edges, pin, and hem.
You Are Done!

And there you have your King Tut/Pharaoh head piece for your costume!
