Make a Pouch for Your Wireless Mouse

I decided to make a pouch for my newly bought wireless mouse, for travel purpose.

It's easy to make one!

Prepare:

• 3~4 pieces (A4 size)of Wool-fiber papers (for the skin & also prototypes)
• 1 piece (A4 size) of Rubber-form papers (cushions)

*My design may not fit to your kind of mouse, by shapes & sizes.

Designing:

• Draw out the design you desired. (but be realistic on the sizing)
• Measure & write down the lengths before the cutting.

• The top piece should be a bit more wider than the bottom piece (usually 0.5 inch wider). In that way the top piece will have a 'curve' for easier mouse entry.

Prototyping:

• Then, start cutting out the pieces & find the best ones for pouch sample.
  

*Always make them a little loose on the pouch sample. (Cos you'll have to add cushions into it later)

Once you have all the good sample pieces, it's time to start the REAL cuttings.

• Start cutting all the shapes nicely, according to the sizes of your sample pieces.

*Again, the shapes & sizes will differ from your own versions.

• Glue the main cushion on the bottom piece.
• The small cushion piece (half moon shape) is glued on the bottom side (inning) of the top piece, (which mouse buttons locates when you put in the mouse "head-in-first".) I left 0.5 inch of space only for edge sewing.

Also, keep a good sample around you while making the finalized "builds", so you'll easy see how to apply the parts from the get go.

*In final version, I trimmed out the upper side of the bottom cushion piece for easier folding.

• Following the design, place the 'holder' piece on the top piece (measuring 1 inch apart from the top)
• Sew the piece in place like the pic above, sew them a bit further away so that the extending bar from bottom piece can easily go through.
• Also, on the middle, cut a horizontal line, make sure it's wide enough for the extending bar.

Creating the shallow "grooves" not only is decorative, it also makes the pocket less "flat", thus more easier to slide the mouse in.

• Use a clip holder (like the pic above) to hold the 2 grooves in place.
• Use small sized needle with thin thread and bind each groove together.

The last step, is to sew the top & bottom pieces together.

• Trace the rounded edge lightly. The trace is the sewing line.
• When tracing, leave some space, that will make easier to hold & also provide some side protection.
• Important: Before sewing, make sure your wireless mouse is able to fits nicely inside the area.
• Finally, use a medium size thread and sew the edges from one side to another, like a "U" shape.

You got yourself a nice looking, functional and portable mouse pouch!

Although this might not be protective enough against dropping to the hard floor or knocking on hard surfaces, but it gives a good handling during take-outs, and gives the mouse a good scratch protection.
