Make a Quoridor Game - Digital Fabrication Edition
Hi everyone!
This is the last assignment of my Digital Fabrication Class at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya's Multimedia Degree.
Here you will find all the files and simple steps to create a digital fabrication version of the marvelous original Quoridor by the WhiteLabWorkshop. You can find their tutorial here: https://www.instructables.com/Make-a-Quoridor-Game/
The original version was licensed under a Creative Commons License Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International and so is this version too.
Supplies
· 3mm board for laser cutting
· Printing supplies, like ABS / ASA filament (if you use a filament 3D printer)
· Adhesive vinyl sheets
· Optional: glue
3D Printing
The following items are intended for 3D printing:
- 2 x Pawns --> Print one of each in two different colors, like blue and green
- 20 x Walls --> Use the same color for all of them, (we suggest white)
- 4 x Bolts --> Same color recommended4 x Nuts --> Same color recommended
- 18 x Squares for the two finish line in a strong color (like red)
- 63 x Squares for the rest of the board (we suggest grey)
Please note that their sizes will fit in a 480.00 mm x 480.00 mm board.
Print and keep all of them for the next steps.
Laser Cutting
The following items are intended for laser cutting in 3mm wood board:
- 1 x Layer 0
- 1 x Layer 1
- 1 x Layer 2
- 1 x Layer 3
- 1 x Layer 4
- 1 x Layer 5
- 1 x Layer 6
Layers 4, 5, and 6 have the same shape so you can simply cut 3 copies of one of them.
Make sure that each layer measures 480.00 mm x 480.00 mm
Keep them for later.
Vinyl Cutting
It is not mandatory, but the game's logo will shine a lot on a board's side, don't you think?
Simply use a vinyl cutter to cut a 259.00mm x 46.00mm (approx.) sticker and keep it for the last steps.
Put Everything Together
- Use layer 0 to put the bolts in place, leaving their endpoints up.
- Place layer 1 on top of layer 0 using the bolts to guide it and keep it in the right position. Please align the wall's racks all in the same direction when placing the layers
- Align all the finish line squares close by to the wall's racks (see board pictures for reference) with the wide base facing down.
- Put in place all the rest of the squares
- Place layer 2 on top of layer 1 aligning everything like in the previous steps. This layer will keep the squares in place.
- Now place the remaining layers in order (3, 4, 5, and 6) and fix everything with the printed nuts.
Optionally you can add glue to the different layers to reinforce the whole structure.
Final step: Add the fashionable vinyl sticker you cut before to the board on the opposite side of the rounded holes.
Please use the provided video as general reference.
