Make a Toothbrush Cover out of a Floss Container

Every time I go for my cleaning, I get a goody bag of dental doodads, among which is a nifty little floss dispenser.  Recently I found myself in need of a toothbrush cover, but couldn't find one that fit my Crest Reach brush(the ones with the ridged tongue scraper on the back of the head -works really well, by the way).  I considered the tubular cases, but they're all so cheap these days and don't stay together.  So, it was either a plastic bag, or somehow fashion one myself.  Here's what I came up with:

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

you'll need:
-floss dispenser from your dentist's bag of tchotchkes.
-sharp knife/razor blade/sharp rock/etc.
-needle-nose pliers
-opposable thumbs

(i packed my toothbrush already, so for these pics i've used an old one, which has a similar-sized neck)

STEP 1

STEP 1
Unfold your floss dispenser

STEP 2
Remove roll of floss.  if there's still unused floss on it, add it to your sewing kit or something.

STEP 3
Remove the cutter.  I was able to pull it off the first time, but needed to use pliers this time to get a good hold on the thing.

STEP 4
Cut out where the cutter used to be.

STEP 5
Get rid of the floss roll tab.  You don't absolutely have to do this, but it sort of gets in the way of the bristles.  Anyway:
Cut it in quarters down the middle

now either snap or cut off the pieces.  I was able to snap off three of them, but one little bugger held fast.  I twisted it off, then cut off the remnant.  Better to just cut if you have a straggler.

The next step is optional.
You can now fit your toothbrush inside and close it up, which just leaves the cover flap.
That won't close because the toothbrush's handle is now in the way.

STEP 6
cut off part of the cover(roughly 1/4) so that it closes over the handle.

Or, If you like, you can just cut that part off, since you have a functional cover as-is.
I prefer to leave it on and cut around the handle, as it provides a more secure closure, and I think it looks neater as well.

When you're done, there's still enough room inside to store the roll of floss this thing came with, so that's better than the sewing kit idea(most floss is awesome for use as thread, but minty/flavored varieties can attract critters).
