Make a Wireless Telegraph
Hello everyone, today I made a wireless telegraph with which you can send wireless messages using Morse code for your friends to listen through a radio.
This is a very simple and easy telegraph that you can make for your kids or your friends. It is wireless, and can be listened to, through a radio.
This telegraph uses an electromagnetic buzzer to make small sparks that sends am signals wirelessly, and you can tune in your am radio to listen to the telegraph and record messages sent in Morse code.
Supplies
One rectangular piece of cardboard. (size based on how big you want your telegraph to be.) https://amzn.to/3FSXJjk
One push button https://amzn.to/3jdi359
One electromagnetic buzzer (MAKE SURE IT IS NOT PIEZO BUZZER) https://amzn.to/3oGN6sj
One LED with a 100 ohm resistor https://amzn.to/3G6LLmq , resistor https://amzn.to/3lXK7vr
One battery (3v - 5v) https://amzn.to/30GbVMF
Tools required-
soldering iron https://amzn.to/3kp3htc
cutter https://amzn.to/2XKA43m
FLUX, DON'T UNDERESTIMATE THE FLUX. https://amzn.to/3nRqfLJ
liquid flux (this one is even better) https://amzn.to/3zsALLE
Glue gun https://amzn.to/3hXc0Ba
First Take a Piece of Cardboard
First thing you need to do is to take a piece of cardboard.
Now remember that the size of this cardboard will decide the size of your telegraph. Choose it based on whether you want a big or small telegraph.
Take a Push Button and Make Holes for It
Now take a push button. It should be a push button that only stays on while you press it. Don't use an on/off switch.
On the cardboard, on one side, mark where the pins of the switch lie and then make holes there.
Now Pass Some Wires Through Those Holes and Solder Them
Now take two wires and pass them through the holes you made.
Once you're done, solder those wires to the switch. The length of the wire should be enough to reach the other side of the cardboard.
Glue Everything
Now pull the wires back and push the switch into the cardboard such that the switch is facing up. Like I'm showing in the photo.
Do the Same With the Buzzer
Now do everything again for the buzzer. Exactly as before.
Mark the pins, make holes, pass wires, solder, pull back the wire and finally glued.
Now Add the LED
Now what you need to do is to make a hole for the LED in the cardboard and glue the LED there.
The position of all of these components do not matter. You can put them wherever you like as long as you make sure to keep the connections right.
Now Add the Battery Connector
Once you're done with adding all the required components. Add a battery to our circuit to make it run.
You can add a battery connector, or you can directly connect the battery to the circuit. Whichever way you do it, just make sure that your battery is somewhere from 3v to 6v.
Mark Anything If Needed
if you have something you'd like to draw, write or mark on your telegraph. Then I will suggest you to do that on this stage.
For example, I was using a simple berg strip for my connector, so I marked positive and negative terminals for me. So I don't make a mistake and connect the battery backwards.
Time to Make Connections
Making connections is really easy. All you have to do, is to connect both the LED and the buzzer with the battery and the switch in such a way, so that when you press the switch, both the buzzer and the LED gets powered on.
It's just a simple circuit with a switch, really.
Now Glue and Connect the Battery
Now glue the battery in place and connect it with the circuit.
Before Moving on Any Further, Check Everything
Before moving on or finalizing everything. Check everything and make sure that everything works fine. Once you're sure about that. Tape everything.
Now take a small piece of cardboard. It should be big enough to completely cover your switch.
Make a half-cut in the top part of this cardboard piece. And glue it over the switch. In such a way so that one part stays stuck to the cardboard while the other is free to make the button pressing easier.
And now finally, take two cardboard pieces and glue them at the either side of your telegraph, on the lower side.
And Now You're Done.
All you have to do now is to ask your friend to tune in to the right station in your am radio where you can listen to your telegraph. And once you've done that, You'll be able to communicate through Morse code.
