Make Your Own Easy Plastic Toys

IMG_1537.jpg

This is my first instructable, so bear with me. If you want a quick way to make little plastic toys or figures, read on.

What you need:
Scissors
Perler Beads (or similar beads)
Small Silicone Mold**
Iron
Parchment Paper

**I discovered that my mold melts and deforms a little on contact with the iron, so use one that is heatproof (silicone would probably work, guess mine wasn't) or that you don't mind messing up.

First Melting

Choose a color or colors of beads for your shape. I made a bone and some fish, and each were probably about an inch long. Fill the mold with the beads to figure out the right amount. Then put these standing up on one piece of parchment paper, and lie another carefully on top. Iron these until they are getting pretty flat. It's good to have your mold right in front of you, because you need to quickly peel off the melted beads and press it into the mold. it doesn't need to be perfectly in there. As soon as you press it in, it will take the shape a little, and you'll melt it more next.

Second Melting

There's probably a dip in the middle of the shape, so add some more beads there. Put another piece of paper of the plastic now, and iron that, trying to keep the plastic in the shape when you lift of the iron. Run under cold water. Check on the shape, and if it's not melted enough (it often isn't), put it back and iron some more!

You're Done!

Cut off the excess and enjoy! These are 3 fish I made, each took maybe 5 minutes.
