Making Brownies From Scratch

In this instructable I'm going to be showing you step by step how to make fresh brownies from scratch. This recipe is special because it is actually vegan, and they taste just like regular brownies that are freshly made at home following this recipe. These vegan brownies also only require ten main ingredients. I chose this recipe because one, it's vegan so it is open to a lot more people and they are different from regular brownies since they have a little bit of peanut butter flavored and they just add something different to try. Also it's a pretty simple recipe so kids can do it when they're bored or are just looking for something fun to do. I made these brownies by collecting all the ingredients which are all very popular ingredients so they are not hard to find. You also need an oven set to 350 degrees. After all the simple steps are completed, you will have made your own brownies!

Step 1: Collect the Ingredients

Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon ground chia seeds
  • 3 tablespoons water
  • 1 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 5 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 6 tablespoons coconut sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¾ cup dark chocolate
  • You can substitute almond butter for the peanut butter if you prefer that taste

Tips:

  • Oven at 350 degrees
  • Bake for 20 minutes
  • Prep time is about 10 minutes

You can add other ingredients that you like more but to keep the recipe vegan these are the main ingredients.

Step 2: Make a Flax Egg

The next step is to create a flax egg. You need to do the step next because the flax egg needs to sit for 10 minutes before being put into the main mixture. All you need for this step is a bowl with nothing else in it, 2 tablespoons of flax, and 3 tablespoons of water. Then you need to mix this together and let it sit for 10 minutes while you're working on the other ingredients. This is all you have to do for this step.

Step 3: Make the Main Mixture

For this next step we are making the main mixture for the brownies. To start off this mixture you need a new bowl, not the one you used for the flax egg mixture. The first ingredient is 1 cup of peanut butter but that can vary on how much of the peanut butter flavor you want in your brownies. The next things you need are 5 tablespoons of cocoa powder, 6 tablespoons of sugar, 2 tablespoons of maple syrup, 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, ½ teaspoon of baking soda, and ¼ teaspoon of salt. After you have all these ingredients in one bowl, mix them all thoroughly together.

Step 4: Combine Both Mixtures

This next step is pretty simple. Assuming your flax egg has been sitting for 10 minutes (if it has not, wait until it has been sitting for 10 minutes) you want to take that bowl of the flax egg and the bowl of the dry ingredients that you just mixed and you want to put them together in a bigger bowl. Then mix these together to get your final mixture for your homemade vegan brownies.

Tip: I like to add dark chocolate chips to the brownies just for more flavor but this is an optional ingredient. You can add any fun flavors or toppings if you wish.

Step 5: Oven Ready!

Now that you've made a big bowl of the final mixture, you want to spread this mixture on a baking pan, make sure you put down a baking sheet on the pan before. These go in the oven at 350° and for 20 minutes. If you want you can pull them out earlier if you want like gooey soft brownies but for them to be the normal consistency of a decently hard brownie, 20 minutes is the right amount of time. Also if you enlarge the recipe to make more of these brownies, I can assume you should put the brownies in for a longer amount of time since there's more of them. On to the last step!

Step 6: Finished Brownies

This is the last step. Now that your brownies are done baking and pull them out of the oven. These brownies will be very hot so do not eat them right away since you will likely burn yourself. If you want any actual declaration feel free to put more chocolate chips, sprinkles, whipped cream anything that you think would taste good. Once they've hardened, cut the brownies into even squares as serving sizes. Once you've done this and maybe decorated them you are finished and have your final product of the homemade vegan health brownies. Last step is to eat and enjoy your creation!
