Marcel

Has it been hard for you to keep long-lasting beautiful curls? With Marcel, you can get long-lasting curls using the wand correctly. Using a Marcel can be difficult at first, but once you get it down, you'll never return to how you were curling before.

Marcel must be demonstrated during your Cosmetology State Broad Exam if you want to get your license.

You'll learn how to use a Marcel properly by reading and following these instructions.

Supplies

You will need the following items:

  • A Marcel (you can get them at a beauty supply store)
  • A styling comb
  • Neck strip
  • Hair clips

Unplug First

To learn how to use the Marcel, keep it unplugged until you get the hang of it for safety. Practice rotating the wand in your hand before using it. The Marcel gets hot and is easy to drop, so you must learn to use it while it's cold first.

Disclaimer: You must practice and become proficient with this iron before using it on yourself or anyone else. The author of this instructable cannot be held liable for injury caused by improper use or accident. Following this tutorial, you assume full responsibility for any accident or damage caused by using a Marcel.

Test the Iron on a Neck Strip

With this tool, you don't want to use it while it's hot for the first time; it can be challenging to figure out the motion. Once you learn the movement with your wrist, you can plug it in and put it on the lowest setting. To test the iron grab a neck strip and clamp the wand down. If the neck strip turns brown, the iron is too hot, turn it down, let it cool down for a minute, and retest. When retesting the iron on the neck strip, it's not too hot if it stays white.

Section

Once you get comfortable using the wand, section a strand in a rectangle of about 2-3 inches. If you do a bigger strand, it could get stuck in the wand or not curl the right way. Doing small pieces will take more time but will ultimately pay off.

Turn It on an Practice

Rolling and clicking to feed the hair

You want to go over the hair a few times, pull it down, clamp in the middle, and twist. Twist one time, then start clicking down and repeat till there's a little piece at the end.
