Massive Pumpkin Dog Treat Recipe (Bigger Than My Dog!)
It was a week away from my dog Murphy’s 4th birthday when we sat down to watch the movie Uncle Buck. Remember that scene when John Candy makes those absolutely massive pancakes for Macaulay Culkin’s birthday? It’s awesome! and after seeing that, I decided I had to make Murphy a massive dog treat for her birthday!
This is a peanut butter free recipe because we have a peanut allergy in the house.
Start by pre-heating your oven to 350 degree F.
Supplies
- 1/2 cup of pureed pumpkin (canned or fresh)
- 2 tablespoons of coconut oil, softened
- 4 tablespoons of water, plus more if needed
- 2 cups of whole wheat flour
- 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon of baking powder
- 1 egg
Make the Dough
Mix the pumpkin, softened coconut oil, and water together in a large bowl.
Then mix in the flour, cinnamon, baking soda, and baking powder.
Mix it a bit and then stir in the egg.
Continue to stir until it’s ALL combined. This might take a few minutes and feel free to add a touch more water in order to get all of the mixture into one solid, slightly sticky ball.
I used my vitamix for all of this mixing and it worked great if you have one!
Roll Out the Dough & Cut Out the Treat
Once done mixing, roll the dough out on a floured surface to ~1/4 inch thick.
To cut out the massive dog treat, I used a knife and did it by hand. I’m actually pretty surprised with how well it came out considering its essentially hand-drawn.
Prep Your Baking Sheet(s)
To get a large enough surface to bake the entire dog treat, I used two baking sheets.
I put them in the oven upside-down and filled in the space between them with tin foil. I then used the baking rack to move it around so the two baking sheets didn't shift around.
Lay down some parchment paper and grease the surface.
Place the prepared dough treat on the lined/greased baking sheet(s).
Bake
Bake for ~30 minutes (depending on size) or until the dough has hardened.
Give It to the Dog!
Murphy came running over to the kitchen right after I got that treat out of the oven. She was so excited to see that thing! Imagine seeing your favorite dessert but blown up to your height!
That’s the gift I was able to bring to my pup for her birthday! She of course didn’t eat the whole thing but we shared it with her birthday party guests (canine and human). We had a great time making this treat, Murphy loved it, and it left us with some great photos to remember her 4th birthday.
Please let me know your thoughts on this dog treat, if you try it yourself, and any ideas to improve or enhance it.
