Melted Crayon Decorated Pumpkin

This is a fun decoration you can make with the family.

For this project you will need:

-Pumpkin(s)
-Spray Paint
-Crayons (any brand, but Crayola's paper came off easier than a store brand paper)
-Bowl or Bucket of Water
-Hot Glue Gun
-Hot Glue
-Heat Gun or Hair Dryer

Make sure your work space is well ventilated and protected. Cardboard or plastic work well. When doing with younger children you'll want to do this step yourself.

If you want a uniform base look you can spray paint your pumpkin. I chose flat black and white for our pumpkins. Some of those doing this project with me got very creative with their spray painting.

Let the pumpkins dry.

Soak the crayons in a container of water. The papers come off easier than if they were dry. I used two types of crayons. One was a very cheap store brand and the other was some old Crayola's one of my children had laying around. The Crayola papers came off much easier than the cheaper crayons' papers. Please note that when melting the brand doesn't matter. All brands melt down the same on this project.

Break the crayons in half or quarters. Half works great on larger pumpkins. Quarters work best on smaller pumpkins.

Make sure your work space is protected because the wax splatters.

Use your heat gun or hair dryer to melt the crayons. My heat gun works much better than my hair dryer.

Leave the wax a little thicker at the top to cover the hot glue.

You can make the rivulets branch off by holding the heat gun closer to the pumpkin.

Please note that the stem is dry and will start smoking and possible catch on fire if the heat gun is held very close for even a short length of time.

You now have an awesome pumpkin to decorate your space!
