Melted Crayon Hot Air Balloon

Crayon Art Competition.PNG

I made a Hot Air Balloon, exploding with color, out of melted crayons.

This Project will take 2 or More Hours.

Mine took 3 hours start to finish but I loved the result in the end.

Supplies

Crayons

Canvas

Super Glue

Hair Dryer

Template- Optional

Peel Crayons

Peel the wrappers off all the crayons you will use.

(Tip: If they don't easily peel, soak them in COLD WATER first and then try peeling again)

Layout Crayons

Layout Crayons in the Shape of a Lightbulb or whatever shape you want. Have as much or as little space as you want between the crayons. (The less space, the more the colors could run together)

I looked up a template of a hot air balloon online, printed it, and traced it on my canvas to make the perfect shape.

Glue Crayons

Glue Crayons to the Canvas with Super Glue.

You can use a Hot Glue Gun but it could melt the Crayons.

Let the glue dry for 10 minutes.

Melt Crayons

Use a Hairdryer, on high heat and high flow, to melt the crayons.

  • Move in a back and forth movement
  • Point hairdryer down at a 45 degree angle while the canvas is sitting upright

(Tip: I would recommend having something under the canvas because the crayons will drip)

Let It Dry

Although on the outside it looks and feels dry, on the inside it could still be soft.

Let it dry for about 20 minutes.

I also made a basket out of melted crayons. And added lines for the rope connecting the balloon and basket.

You can add any details you wish in the middle of the balloon.

Enjoy
