Mermaid Makeup

Here's a nice mermaid makeup look! I like to wear this with my fairy kei coords, but I imagine it would go nicely with a costume or just a dressed-up spring look. The emphasis is on large, round eyes and the colors blue and pink.

First, do your base like you normally would. I used the NYX Color Correcting Concealer palette to get rid of my under-eye circles and redness, followed by the Loreal True Match Lumi Foundation in W1-2 (light ivory). I set it with a powder from Covergirl.

Since we'll be putting a lot of bright colors on the eyes, it's best to use a white eyelid primer. I used the NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk. Normally, I wouldn't recommend using such a bright primer, but in this case we want the colors to pop as much as possible. I also applied a little bit in the inner corner of my eyes to brighten them.

Next, I applied a bright pink blush right under my eye. I applied it in a thin line directly under the eyes to give the impression of a character who's just been crying, or perhaps got a little too much salty sea water in her eyes. The blush I used is Too Faced's Love Flush in How Deep is Your Love?.

I'm not doing much to my eyebrows, but I did fill them in a bit with an eyeshadow shade that matched my natural brow color. For me, that's this shade from the Maybelline The Blushed Nudes palette.

I decided to throw a little blue into my eyebrows as well to give a subtle fantasy vibe. Just brush it on top of the first, natural shade lightly. You want to be able to see it, but just barely. The blue I used is Anastasia's Azure from their World Traveler palette.

Still using Azure, I filled in my crease and the outer third of my eyes and blended it in.

Next, I used this lovely sparkly blue-green from Maybelline's Sapphire Siren quad to fill in the middle third of my lid. I think it's the perfect color for a mermaid look. Be careful to leave the inner third bare.

Next, fill in the inner third of the eyes with any pink shade you have; I used Cotton Candy from Too Faced's Chocolate Bon Bons palette. Swing the color around the inner corner of the eyes and onto the inner third of the bottom lash line too.

Finish the eyes by placing a little bit of Azure on the outer third of the bottom lash line, connecting it to the outer V you've already created. Place Totally Fetch from the same palette as Cotton Candy, or any other vibrant hot pink you have, onto the middle third of the bottom lash line and blend. I also put a little bit of Pink Champagne from the World Traveler palette over the Cotton Candy in the inner corner because I wanted it to be more glittery, but that's optional.

Keeping with the mermaid theme, I used a blue liner instead of a black one; this is NYX's Studio Liquid Liner in Extreme Blue. I only lined the outer half of my eyes; this makes the eyes look bigger and helps to emphasize the colors we spent so much time on. You can wing them out if you choose to, but I decided not to, instead flicking the liner up just a bit at the ends.

I decided to throw in some silvery glitter in the form of NYX's Liquid Crystal Liner in Crystal Silver. I drew on three silvery lashes underneath each eye, and did a slight double line over the blue liner I'd already placed. Although it didn't turn out in the photo, I also spread a bit onto each cheek, blending it out so it would just create a subtle sparkle when the light hits it.

Next, I highlighted each cheek, the tip of my nose, above each brow, my Cupid's bow, and the tip of my chin. I use Satin Sheets from the Chocolate Bon Bons palette.

This is the finished eye look.

I decided to create a gradient pink lip for this look. This makes the mouth look smaller and allows you to use a vibrant lip color without overpowering an already vibrant eye look.

The first step is to apply your foundation on your lips to conceal their natural color. Leave the very inner part of the lip bare.

Next, apply your color (Maybelline's #870, Shocking Coral) to the area you left bare on the inner part of your lip. Continue alternating foundation and lipstick until you're able to blend them into each other well. You should be able to see the color around the inside line of your lips, and then see it slowly fade into the foundation color.

Here is the finished look, with a very mermaid-y hair accessory as the icing on top.
