Mini Crochet Hanging Plant

I’ve always been a fan of mini crochet things. I’ve also been a fan of plants, so naturally I just had to crochet a mini hanging plant. But, the patterns I found online were either not my thing or not mini enough. Plus, I wanted to crochet these for earrings, so I wanted to make them really small.

So I decided to make my own pattern and see how it goes. Well, it was really successful, so here’s a tutorial on how to crochet a mini (VERY mini!) hanging plant.

Materials:

1. Lightweight yarn in brown/beige and any shade of green
2. Thin white yarn or string for the macrame hanger

Tools:

1. 3 mm crochet hook
2. Yarn needle—or you could use your crochet hook, but it may be more difficult

Start with your brown yarn.

Make a magic ring and chain 1.

6 single crochet into the magic ring, slip stitch to the first single crochet, chain 1

2 single crochet into each stitch, slip stitch to the first single crochet, chain 1 (12)

Single crochet into the back loop of each stitch, slip stitch, chain 1 (12)

Crochet 3 more rounds of single crochet, ending each round the same way with a slip stitch and chain 1.

Cut yarn and fasten off. Weave in the ends with your crochet hook or needle.

Use your green yarn for this step.

Make a slip knot and chain 9

Single crochet into 2nd chain from hook, single crochet into every chain until the end. (8 single crochet)

Chain 9, and 8 single crochet again.

Repeat this until you have 5 “arms” of your crochet plant.

Cut the yarn and leave a long tail for sewing.

Turn the pot inside out and sew the plant onto the base. Turn it right side out again and the plant arms should poke out the top.

Cut three 16-inch pieces of your white yarn. Fold each in half. Take one strand and tie an overhand knot near the fold to make a loop. The loop should be the same size as the base of your pot, but not too big. Attach the other two strands to the loop by tying a lark’s head knot. Spread the knots out so the loop forms a triangle.

Separate the strands as shown in the 3rd picture, with strands from different knots grouped together. Then tie each group of 2 knots in an overhand knot. Continue to separate the strands and tie knots until your hanger is big enough for the pot.

Put the potted plant into the “net” of knots and it should fit snugly. Tie the strands together at the top and trim it. Ta-da! One beautifully crocheted hanging plant. You can hang these from a bag, a rear view mirror, or on your earrings! These cute little creations add the perfect complement to any everyday object.
