Mini Fairy Shelf

Hello everyone! It's been a while since I made a tutorial, but I have to spend a couple of days locked in my room, so I decided to make a project that I always wanted to do but never had the time. This is the first time I do something with miniatures, so I've been testing, reshaping and transforming things during the process.

It is a shelf inspired in a fairy's house. I have taken advantage of all the materials I had in my room, without buying anything new. I wanted it to be a recycling challenge with miniatures, bringing out all my creativity to make minis of things you would never think of.

Hola a todos! hace tiempo que no hacía ningún tutorial, pero estos días los he tenido que pasar encerrada en la habitación y decidí hacer un proyecto que siempre tuve ganas de hacer pero nunca había tenido tiempo. Esta es la primera vez que hago algo de miniaturas, por lo que he ido probando, haciendo y transformando durante el mismo proceso.

Se trata de una estantería de la casa de un hada mágica. He aprovechado todos los materiales que tenía en mi habitación, sin comprar nada nuevo. Quería que fuera un reto de reciclaje y miniaturas, sacando toda la creatividad para hacer miniaturas de cosas que nunca pensarías.

I will put the materials in every step of each object, but the basic materials are:

• Hot silicone and white glue
• Paint
• Cutter and scissors
• Wooden sticks
• Artificial moss

Voy a poner los materiales en cada paso, en cada objeto, pero los materiales básicos son:

• Silicona caliente y cola blanca
• Pintura
• Cúter y tijeras
• Palos de madera
• Musgo artificial

Supplies:

• Square sticks, branches.
• Pliers, cutter, hot silicone.

I cut a piece of cardboard to the size I wanted the shelf to be, in this case 15 cm high and 10 cm wide (this step is not necessary). I cut all the sticks to that size, without being very exact so that it would be irregular. I glued two sticks diagonally at the back with silicone, to hold it all together. I also made the shelves, It took three sticks for each shelf and glued them together. Then I rip the wood a little and gave a rounded shape to the edge of the shelves with the cutter. Be careful! before gluing the shelves you have to paint everything.

• Tenazas, cúter, silicona caliente

Corté un trozo de cartón de la medida que quería la estantería, en este caso es de 15 cm de alto y 10 cm de ancho (este paso no es necesario). Corté todos los palos de esa medida, sin ser muy exacta para que quedase irregular, Pegué dos palos en diagonal por detrás con silicona, para sujetarlo todo. También hice las baldas, cogí tres palos por cada balda y los pegué entre si. Después rasgué un poco la madera y le di forma redondeada al borde de las baldas con el cúter. Cuidado! antes de pegar las baldas hay que pintarlo todo.

• Black and brown acrylic paint, brushes.
• Silicone
• Artificial moss

I painted the wood with watered down brown acrylic paint and then with black paint. I removed the excess with a napkin, gave it the necessary layers until the color resembled the branches I had. When it was all painted and dry, I glued the branches to the sides and shelves, I did it in a way so it wouldn't be straight. Then I added the mos

Pinté la madera con pintura acrílica marrón aguada y después con pintura negra. Quité el exceso con una servilleta, le di las capas necesarias hasta que el color se parecía a las ramas que tenía. Cuando estaba todo pintado y seco, pegué las ramas a los lados y las baldas, lo hice de una forma para que no quedase recto. Después añadí el musgo.

• Colored wax
• An acorn cap
• Black paint
• UV resin
• Iridescent paper
• Glow-in-the-dark powder
• Cutter

I had this lilac wax air freshener in a drawer. To create the geode I cut it with a cutter making angles, forming the crystals of the geode. I painted the base with black acrylic paint. I added epoxy resin mixed with fluorescent powder and iridescent paper. I glued the crystals with the resin and put more iridescent paper on top.

Tenía este ambientador de cera lila guardado en un cajón. Para crear la geoda corté con un cúter la cera haciendo ángulos, formando los cristales de la geoda. Pinté la base con pintura acrílica negra. Añadí resina epoxi mezclada con polvo fluorescente y papel iridiscente. Pegué los cristales con la resina y le puse más papel iridiscente encima. Dejé secar al sol.

Looking around my room I saw that this paint was dry and could not be used anymore. I took the plugs and painted them in different colors (later I changed my mind), I cut and glued a strip of foam to make the edge of the pot. To make the first plant I used the wood scraps from step 1, painted them green and glued them inside the pot with some moss. To make the second plant I used something I found but I don't know what it is, I think it is used to make artificial flowers, I also used artificial moss, painted it all pink and glued it. In the end I decided to paint the pots black.

Buscando por mi habitación vi que esta pintura estaba seca y no se podía usar más. Cogí los tapones y los pinté de colores (luego cambié de idea), Corté y pegué una tira de goma Eva para hacer el borde de la maceta. Para hacer la primera planta usé los restos de madera del paso 1, los pinté de verde y los pegué dentro de la maceta con un poco de musgo. Para hacer la segunda planta usé algo que encontré pero no sé lo que es, creo que se usa para hacer flores artificiales, también usé musgo artificial, lo pinté todo de rosa y lo pegué. Al final decidí pintar las macetas negras.

Supplies:

• Printed book cover.
• Paper, ruler, scissors, white glue

I prepared a file to print with the covers of some magic books "book of spells", "how to create your broom", etc. I cut out the books and folded them as shown in the image, I cut a strip of a normal white paper of the same size as the height of the book, in this case about 3 cm, I folded the strip to create the pages, then I cut on one side so that there were no folds on the edge of the book. I covered the folds with white glue and glued it inside.

• Papel, regla, tijeras, cola blanca

Preparé un archivo para imprimir con las cubiertas de algunos libros de magia "libro de los hechizos", "cómo crear tu escoba", etc. Recorté los libros y los doblé como se ve en la imagen, recorté una tira de un papel blanco normal de la misma medida que la altura del libro, en este caso unos 3 cm, fui doblando la tira para crear las páginas, después recorté por un lado para que no hubiera dobleces en el borde del libro. Cubrí la parte de las dobleces con cola blanca y lo pegué por dentro.

Supplies:

• Printed decorative picture.
• Masking tape, toothpicks, black paint and white glue.

I cut out and taped the picture on a cardboard with masking tape, front and back, then cut out the excess leaving a blank space to put the frame. I cut the toothpicks to size, painted them black and glued them with white glue. I also made another picture without a frame as if it were a poster

• Cuadro decorativo impreso
• Cinta adhesiva, palillos de dientes, pintura negra y cola blanca

Recorté y pegué el cuadro en una cartulina con cinta adhesiva, por delante y por detrás, después recorté el sobrante dejando un espacio en blanco para poner el marco. Corté los palillos a la medida, los pinté de negro y los pegué con cola blanca. También hice otro cuadro sin marco como si fuera un poster.

Supplies:

• Transparent acetate
• Printed labels
• Adhesive tape or silicone
• Cork, artificial moss, colored pencils

I cut out a rectangle of clear acetate, attached the label by putting a piece of masking tape longer than the acetate, rolled it on a pencil and glued it with the excess tape (you can also glue it with hot silicone). I made all the jars. To make the stopper I cut out two cork circles, the bottom one has to fit in the cylinder of the canister and the second one has to be bigger to make a stopper. I made the base of the bottles by gluing with silicone to the acetate at the bottom and trimming the excess. To fill the jars I used cork (ginger and cinnamon), artificial moss (mint and basil), pieces of toothpicks painted brown (vanilla) and grated green pencil (parsley).

• Cinta adhesiva o silicona
• Corcho, musgo artificial, lápices de colores

Recorté un rectángulo de acetato transparente, pegué la etiqueta poniendo un trozo de cinta adhesiva más larga que el acetato, lo enrollé en un lápiz y lo pegué con el sobrante de la cinta (también se puede pegar con silicona caliente). Hice todos los botes. Para hacer el tapón recorté dos círculos de corcho, el de abajo tiene que encajarse en el cilindro del bote y el segundo tiene que ser mas grande para que haga tope. Hice la base de los botes pegando con silicona al acetato por la parte de abajo y recortando el excedente. Para rellenar los botes usé corcho (jengibre y canela), musgo artificial (menta y albahaca), trozos de palillos de dientes pintados de marrón (vainilla) y ralladura de lápiz verde (perejil).

Supplies:

• UV resin, UV lamp, mold
• Bead

I poured UV resin into a half sphere mold, cured it with the lamp and when it was hard, I took out the half sphere and made another one, then put it together with UV resin and glued a wooden bead to it to make the base. (The glass ball isn't perfect but it's mysterious).

• Resina UV, lámpara UV, molde
• Cuenta

Eché resina UV en un molde de media esfera, lo curé con la lámpara y cuando estaba duro, saqué la media esfera e hice otra, después lo junté con resina UV y le pegué una cuenta de madera para hacer la base. (La bola de cristal no está perfecta pero es misteriosa).

I was wondering if I was capable of making a miniature dreamcatcher. And I think I succeeded. I had to wrap the ring with the thread and glue the end with silicone, then I tied a thinner thread to make the star, it is knotted at point 1 and goes in order by the numbers forming the star. Finally I added a decoration with more threads.

Materiales:

• Hilo

Me estaba preguntando si yo era capaz de hacer un atrapasueños en miniatura. Y creo que lo logré. Tuve que envolver la anilla con el hilo y pegar el final con silicona, después até un hilo más fino para hacer la estrella, se anuda en el punto 1 y se va en orden por los números formando la estrella. Finalmente añadí una decoración con más hilos.

Supplies:

• Wings of printed (in my case on acetate paper).
• Silicone, cardboard

I had these wings and to give them more color I put them on a white paper and glued them, cut them out and this was the last decoration.

On the other hand, I had this bracelet that I think would look great as a garland of lights.

Materiales:

• Alas de impresas (en mi caso en papel de acetato)
• Silicona, cartulina

Tenía estas alas y para darle más color las puse sobre un papel blanco y las pegué, las recorté y esta fue la última decoración.

Por otro lado, tenía esta pulsera que creo que quedaría muy bien como una guirnalda de luces.

I was doing several tests on how to place the objects, though the possibilites are endless! This is the way I liked the most. I glued it all with a little bit of hot glue, I think you can always take it off carefully and place it in another way, if I you fancy it differently ;)

Final thoughts: I had never made minis before, but after this project in which I spent two days, I can say that I really liked it! I'd thought of more things for the shelf but in the end I couldn't put them, some keys, some wire wings, a fantasy map, etc.

I am very happy with the final result and I am very glad I did it, because I have discovered a new skill. I hope you liked it too, see you in the next tutorial :)

Estuve haciendo varias pruebas de cómo colocar los objetos, aunque hay posibilidades casi infinitas, esta es la forma que mas me gustó. Lo pegué todo con un poco de silicona caliente, creo que siempre se puede despegar con cuidado y colocar de otra manera si me arrepiento ;)

Reflexión final: yo nunca había hecho miniaturas, pero después de este proyecto en el que he estado dos días seguidos haciendo esta estantería puedo decir que me ha gustado mucho. Había pensado más cosas para esta estantería que al final no he podido poner, unas llaves, unas alas de alambre, un mapa de fantasía, etc.

Estoy muy contenta con el resultado final y me alegro mucho de haberlo hecho, porque he descubierto una nueva habilidad. Espero que os haya gustado a vosotros también, nos vemos en otro tutorial :)
