Mini-bag in Which You Can ACTUALLY Find Stuff!

IMG_20240529_103929279.jpg

I bet we have all had times when our handbags simply swallow all the small objects we put inside. Luckily that is not the case with this cute mini-bag, using Circuit Playground Express to light up the inside with the click of a button. Not only is it awfully practical but also a fashion statement to spice up simple outfits.

Supplies

  • Circuit Playground Express
  • 1/2 meter of fabric (extra if you have large-print fabric that you want to pattern-match)
  • Sewing machine
  • Needle
  • Thread
  • Zipper
  • Metal ring

Draft Pattern

Either draft your own pattern or follow the instructions below.

Strap: 93cm * 8cm

Front*2: 24cm * 14cm (connect in a curve)

Bottom: 39cm * 8.5cm (connect with 2 mirroring curves)

Strap connecter*2: 8cm * 8cm

Cut Out Pieces

Cut out the pattern you just drafted.

Cut Fabric

Bobby-pin the pattern to your fabric and cut it out with fabric scissors. In the case of a printed fabric take into consideration what pattern you would like at the front of your bag.

Sew Stiffener to Bottom

Sew a stiffening foam slightly smaller than the bottom to the fabric.

Sew Front and Back to Bottom

Depending on if your fabric frays or not you might want to French seam the edges to provide extra support.

Sew the Strap

Sew the right sides of the strap together and then turn it inside out.

Sew the Strap Connector

Follow the same instructions as for the strap: sew the right sides of the strap together and then turn it inside out.

Sew Strap Connector Onto Bag

When sewing the strap connector to the sides of the bag, make sure to loop it through the metal loop.

Sew on the Strap

Sew either side of the strap onto a hardware loop.

Hand-stich Zipper On

Hand-stich the zipper onto the bag for a neat finish.

Program Circuit Playground Express

Code your circuit playground express using MakeCode. I personally went for very simple code that will turn the lights on and off, however you can make it fancier if you want. Then afterwards upload your code to the CPX.

Sew the CPX Into the Bag

Hand sew the CPX and battery into the bag.

Enjoy!!!

I hope you loved making this bag just as much as I did, and will never loose small items in our bag again!
