Most people think of DIY projects as something that is either too difficult or too time-consuming. However, there are many easy and rewarding DIY projects that anyone can do. One such project is making a miniature wooden shield. This project is perfect for anyone who loves history, or who is looking for a unique gift for a friend or family member. With just a few supplies and a little time, you can make a beautiful and meaningful shield that will be treasured for years to come.

So If you're looking for a fun project, or just want to make something cool for your office or home, check out this DIY miniature wooden shield! It's easy to make and only requires a few materials that you probably already have around the house. Follow the steps below and you'll have your own shield in no time!

In this article, I'm gonna show you how I made the shield, and later I'll make a series of articles for the other equipment.

Supplies

For this project you will need a few things:

  • A piece of wood 3mm
  • A jigsaw
  • A sander
  • A Hand drill
  • Some paint
  • Wooden Glue
  • Wooden sticks (popsicle sticks)

Cutting Off the Wood

Print the attached shield-pattern pdf file after scaling it to suitable the size that you want, then glue it temporarily on a piece of wood then trace the outer like to make out this shield shape.

Bending the Wooden Shield

This step is very important to give the shield its right shape, to do this apply hot steam using a steam iron or boiling water steam to gently bend the wood without breaking it then attached it tightly to a rounded surface and let it dry.

then sand the rough edges using sandpaper starting from 100 then 220 then 400.

Note: this step may take some time but it's very important to give you a good result.

In this step, the shield started to take its shape so we need to glue some popsicle sticks vertically and trace the edge as shown in the pictures. you need to glue it tightly and apply paper clips until it's totally dry.

Painting

There are so many ways to paint the wood but I choose to use acrylic brawn paint and apply a thin layer to it. and to give the effect of metal you need to apply a primarily black color at first then use a dry brush to paint the silver or golden color as shown.
