Mining in Minecraft: the Basics
Okay, Minecraft. It is a sandbox game, your world is up to you, blah blah blah...but you can't do anything without MINING. Minecraft literally has the word mining in it. But then again, mining is not only about collecting cobblestone from caves and finding iron and diamonds. There is a LOT more to mining than what meets the eye, so the basics are, um...the candy in candy shops? What I mean is, the basics are the base, and this instructable will guide you to slowly be a mining expert.
Supplies
For mining, there are a lot of tools you could use, but there are the basic tools that u could upgrade from wooden to diamond and netherite:
- Pickaxe
- Sword
- Shovel
Other supplies:
- Crafting table
- Furnace
- Bed
- Lots of food and wood (mostly for torches)
- Cobblestone (as they're fireproof)
- A bucket of water!!!
Location
This instructable, as I told you, will contain some tips and basics for mining. The first rule is location. Try to find an existing cave system rather than digging straight down. This will save you A LOT of time and resources and will hopefully lead you straight to the good stuff.
Starting Out
Never dig straight up or straight down. You could be led straight to lava, water or hostile mobs, without any notice. It would also be hard for you to find your way back again. This is a very small step, I know, but could save you from potential death which could, you know...destroy all the progress u just made?
Waterfalls
If you're careful, you can swim up and down waterfalls to travel between different levels quickly. But if you stay submerged in the water for too long, you will drown.
Building a Base
This is probably the most important step of all if you are spending a lot of time in a cave system. You can mine out a small space with plenty of torches to stop mobs from spawning, a bed, furnaces and a crafting table. This is where you can go after a long day of mining or if you have a lot of loot to smelt.
The End...of Only the Basics!
These are the most important rules you should know about mining, but there are endless other things and possibilities you haven't explored yet. You could find out about a lot more new things, which could help you be a professional in the game!
