My name is sun-woo, kid maker who has maker movement and fair experience about 5 years from 6 years old. I participated in the first maker fair in 2014 with my work with my parents. Currently I'm 11 years old and a 6th grade elementary school student.

I live in Seoul, South Korea and I enjoy making something such as Toy, Game by using Design tools, 3D printer, soldering, Arduino, App inventor coding etc. When I make something, I use 3D printer, layer cut machine, CAD tools like Autocad, Tinkercad, 123D and Arduino. Also, I like to create contents by using Photoshop, Clip studio.

I would like to introduce my work called 'mission impossible game'. I and my sister called yeon-su made it and joined Seoul Maker Fair in 2016. She is three years younger than me. Actually, I didn't think the game would be so popular ... it was quite popular. At the Maker Fair, more than one to two thousand people have fallen into this game. I was rewarded when I saw people and children having fun.

This work creates a thrilling game with laser, ambient light sensor, smoke machine and Arduino.

So I think it is a helpful idea to enjoy with children..

Game Panel Design and Laser Cutting

I made a game panel designed with CAD as follows(refer to the attached DXF file). The game panel is rectangular in shape, The game size is enough for one person to avoid the laser. If you want to redesign it, you can modify the DXF CAD file.

The game panel has been designed to fit in a rectangular shape as the figures.

One panel allows the laser to fire, while the other panel attaches a light sensor to recognize the laser light.

Three to four lasers are installed on one panel.

After designing the game panel, we should cut the panels of game by using laser cutting and MDF(3mm). MDF materials are very heavy for us to move. It is good to get help from adults.

If you want to decorate the panel nicely, you can use spray and mask paper to create a beautiful appearance on the panel.

In this game, a total of 7 laser emitting elements and Photo Resistor sensors were used.

Electronic components are as follows.

1. Photo Resistor sensor x 7

2. Resistance 220 Ohm x 7

3. Laser light emitting element x 7

4. Arduino Mega

5. 5m wire x 3 x 7

6. beep

Connect the light sensor, resistor, and wires like the figure.

For connecting pin between the sensors and Arduino analog pins, refer to the below.

Arduino A0 - #1 photo resistor sensor's signal pin

...

Arduino A6 - #7 photo resistor sensor's signal pin

Arduino Digital 8 - beep signal pin

In addition, a smoke machine must be present for the laser to be visible.

Assembly

Connect the photo resistance sensor to the game panel. Then connect the laser emission sensor to the other game panel.

Before connecting the sensor, make sure that the laser is displayed on the opposite side of the panel. Use the drill to make holes where the laser is marked. Then connect the sensor and fix it with glue gun.

Coding

By using Arduino Mega, connect the photo resistance sensor signal with each analog input pin of Arduino.

Refer to mission_impossible_game.ino.

It's easy to see at first glance, but it's actually the size that will take a few weeks to make. In fact, it takes a couple of weeks if you put together such things as frame picking, designing, and finding information such as circuit, design method.

Still, you will feel better when you see the people playing games happily.

Making Good Memories and Value.

Dad, my mom helped me to move heavy panels, or I ate snacks and ramen noodles with my parent and made good memories in Maker space.

When I showed Mission Impossible Games at the Maker Fair, a lot of people came. Whenever we participate in the maker fair from 2014, we gather donations to help the needy neighbors. So, we put a pretty little coin collecting box on our booth. Instead of putting the coins, people handed out pretty pendants and necklaces that we designed and laser-cut. In 2017, people enjoyed the games we made, and donated money to the poor, also.

I think a little idea can make what we do good.
